The fact you can defend him is just a clear sign that you are either completely delusional or a man of very, very low principles. | | | | | This is the problem, "The fact that you say x (or rather what I have understood as x) means y". x - I have not "defended" President Trump, just given my explanation as to how the situation has gotten to the point is at.
y - defending Donald Trump doesn't automatically make someone "delusional" or of low principles.

| | Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got? | Quote: | | | | | What am I changing? You've lost me there..
Shall I word it differently .. A group of peaceful protestors entered the capitol building, one of the most famous and heavily guarded buildings in the world, just a mile and half away from another of the most fortified buildings in the world where thousands of heavily armed police, guards, troops are stationed. Nobody could have predicted this would happen on such an historic day for the nation.
Was Trump on security duty at the capitol? Couldn't somebody else have maybe called for help? Did everybody just take selfies and wait for Pence to call for help..
look at the selfie pics of David Trone as he fled from the mob .. They're all nut jobs.
It stinks, the whole thing stinks.. The whole election, the whole reporting of it, both sides, all of it. | | | | | What a load of bullshit.
You sound like someone who turned the telly on when the Capitol was already occupied and it all looked quite calm. You must have missed the things leading up to this, the rally in the morning where Trump and his henchmen called for revenge on the Republicans confirming Biden and not so peaceful pictures when people stormed the Capitol.
That Capitol Police look awful here is another story.

| | Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got? | Quote: | | | | | Jeez, what a pointless argument. The mob that rushed in the Capitol were certainly not peaceful, but far from a dangerous coup-attempting mob or any serious risk to the country. Probably quite a serious risk had they encountered people in suits (congresspeople, staff), as mobs are stupid if anything. I doubt they would habe been able to recognize a democrat from a republican had they met any, and may have hurt them...purposefully or not.
If some of the people were armed, many of them weren't obviously brandishing their guns (I saw pictures of one outdoors, none inside the building). They did break some windows, probably caused some light mob-mentality damage to furniture. Deplorable? Yes. Shameful? Very, completely disgraceful. But a poor attempt at kicking off a civil war. Just some idiots with very low IQ and not much do to. | | | | | I switched over to CNN last night and they had a 9/11 nation under attack theme which seemed a gross exaggeration for what it was. Sure the reputational damage is immense, but this is a President who continues to plumb new depths of awfulness so not really surprising.

| | Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got? | Quote: | | | | | Whatever happened there it will take years or decades to repair the image USA has these days. Cui prodest? | | | | | Agree. But as much as I dislike Trump, it's only reasonable to say that Mr. Imbecile couldn't have possibly created these mobs. He only fanned the flames of something that's been there all along. The nationalists waving union flags, the racists, the white supremacists...they've all been there since Jim Crow and before that. They never disappeared. Trump merely profited from them one time around, and he paid the price with the moderate conservatives, who didn't support a second term. His fanning the flames certainly "activated" a few more of his so-called "base", which explains how he raked even more net votes than in 2016. But it stirred the undecided, to bring a record-shattering net vote for Biden.
My point is: the US has an alarmingly high number of "deplorables". Trump only made them visible, perhaps emboldened them a bit. THAT will take many years to heal.
Want to hear some "irony"? Turkey sent a message to their citizens living in the US, saying: | Quote: | | | | We are following the domestic developments with concern that took place after the US Presidential elections and demonstrator’s attempt to raid the Congress building today. We invite all parties in the USA to temperance and common sense. We believe that the USA will overcome this domestic political crisis in maturity. We recommend that our citizens in the USA stay away from crowded places and places where shows are held | | | | | As Clarissa Ward, CNN correspondent said to Jake Tapper last night: "This is exactly the kind of language that we're used to reading in a US press-release to American citizens who might be in a city in the Middle East during a crisis or a riot of this nature. It is astonishing to see this sort of language being used by a country like Turkey warning its citizens of walking around the US Capitol".

There was a whole day, weeks, months leading up to this, people even wore t-shirts with the date on it, it was not a surprise.
The fact that these nutters could take over the capitol building is what? They were super professional? Umm really cleaver? or what, they were allowed to do it for effect?
The media of course directly blame trump for it but jeezus, could somebody else not have defended the place on such an historic day. It's just bizarre..
This is not a trump supporting thing, I couldn't care less who rides in airforce one, it's pointing out the obvious that it all stinks.

| | Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got? | Quote: | | | | | This is what I'm trying quite hard to understand. Why is the world losing their minds when the police literally opened up the front doors and let them in? The fact that the guy appearing on all the front pages is topless and wearing a Jamiroquai hat should give an indication of how much of a serious threat to democracy this posed. | | | | | The threat to democracy isn't in what they did yesterday. The threat to democracy is in Trump's denial of having lost the election and his persistent encouragement of his supporters' belief in his delusions that the election results are invalid... even going so far as to pressure Pence and other Republicans to back him to try to overturn the election results.
But you can try to downplay the events of yesterday all you want. That doesn't change what happened. But clearly you think it's fine for Trump supporters to assault police officers and break into the Capitol building during a Congressional session, forcing that session to be brought to an end and all Congress members to be evacuated.
I'm willing to bet both my kidneys that if it was Biden supporters doing that, people like yourself and other Trump supporters would be calling them out on it.

Once the allegations of electoral fraud had been disproven the Donald Trump should have conceded.
As the truth and facts matter to many on this forum, please point to an example where I've said it's "fine" for Trump supporters to assault police?

It certainly looked like 'the powers that be' did not want a pitched battle with people being shot on the steps of Capitol Hill.
Once the protesters started to disperse (ie; they had finished the protest and made their point), they were hurried along in a show of law and order.
Tactics that are used by security forces all over the globe.
JohnH is absolutely right, this was allowed to happen.
