No to the former, yes to the latter, but as the toilet was in my house, I didn't have to carry the kit around with me like some opportunist serial killer. Just sayin', innit...
Always carry the second knife, safety wire, safety wire twisting tool (useless without it) and duct tape in my vehicles, not normally on my person unless I'm going somewhere where I need them, depends.

Always a Swiss knife on my belt, never know when you'll need a cork screw. Zip ties are great for many emergency repairs.

I believe that in the law and order circles this is called an abduction kit.
When riding the mountain bike: 2-3 zip ties, a bit of duct tape rolled around a pen, and a knife Also, a compact bike tool, an emergency blanket, and a storm whistle.

Sorry but I have to laugh at the idea of abducting someone on foot or with the MTB

Clearly you have never owned an Italian motorcycle, nor had to fix a toilet.

Tom
Over 60 years ago I had a BSA 250 that I had to drive very thoughtfully. If I exceeded 30 mph for too long then the motor seized and I had to wait for it to cool down before moving on. Not sure your emergency kit would have helped me.

Edit: forgot to say Pence really impressed me this week.

Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

Law enforcement officials have opened at least 25 domestic terrorism cases following the riot that broke out at the U.S. Capitol building last week amid pro-Trump demonstrations in Washington, D.C.
At least 120 rioters have been identified and are under investigation; what sort of idiots run around without masks during a pandemic and then post photos on social media? Most of them identified as long term Trump supporters.

The FBI is investigating the possibility of more serious charges.

Let us hope Trump does not pardon them.

Meanwhile on the happy families front:
Quote:
Melania Trump says she was 'disappointed and disheartened' watching Capitol riots in a statement issued this morning.

"Make no mistake about it, I absolutely condemn the violence that has occurred on our Nation’s Capitol," she added. "Violence is never acceptable."
Finally, it looks likely Trump will make a new record this week by being the first President to be twice impeached.
Conviction requires a two-thirds majority vote. Three United States presidents have been impeached, although none were convicted.
Trump is unlikely to be the first to be convicted.

It all seems a bit of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. By the time it will end up even taking effect they'll be taking around 2 days off the presidents term. It looks like more of a final FU than a necessity.

Absolutely not - a precedent needs to be set and there needs to be consequences for what he started. Also, he will not be able to run for president again, which is his plan.

Considering it took about 2 months to have the results of the impeachment last time, I can't see how it becomes even relevant. They'd be voting to remove someone from power who's not in power.

I don't see trump running in 3 years, I doubt the republicans would go for him again, or it'll be one of his kids. Between his plans and reality there is often a large gap.

Exactly. Plus if convicted he loses his 200k pension for life, secret service protection at a cost of gods know what and a ludicrous travel budget.

I believe the plan is to hold the trial in a few months, maybe after the first 100 days of the Biden administration. The trial can be delayed by the senate.

And whatever he looses if convicted will need to be stipulated by congress (not sure which house)

They can rush the impeachment to the Senate vote, just like they're doing with the impeachment vote this week; and some experts have said that it can be voted on, by the Senate, even after Biden takes office. Apparently, there is no law saying that the Senate vote cannot occur once a President leaves office.

Trump has already suggested that he's planning to run in 2024 (especially the way he ended his last speech), and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he runs as an Independent.

Like I said, a precedent needs to be set. They have allowed too much for too long and because of that, we have this violent invasion at the heart of the nation's government. Something must be done to stop the Trump train...

What precedent would be set though? If we assume that the Senate won't convict - which is a pretty solid assumption - then Trump can run again in 2024 assuming he's A) alive and B) not in prison.

So rephrasing your post you believe crimes should not be prosecuted/punished after the event?

That's a fair leap of paraphrasing there.

I might have this wrong, but my understanding is that impeachment is a political punishment pending a potential criminal one. The 25th amendment would be better suited in this case.

So no, I believe he should be prosecuted for any crimes he's committed. Punishment up to the courts. This should not require an impeachment first (self pardoning shenanigans excepted).

Seeing as we're nearly over this 4 years of madness I would like to see it come to a close without providing any more fuel to the fire for those who think Trump is president for life.

Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

By waiting till the Biden administration is installed, the rules for the impeachment trial can be shaped by the Democratic leadership. (First impeachment trial was a joke) Two thirds majority means they have to convince 16 R Senators to vote yes and depending on how this ends, maybe that will be possible.

Another possibility is that a number of the "less brave" GOP senators choose to not turn up for the vote so they cannot be accused of direct Trump disloyalty. Then the number of votes needed for a two-thirds majority will be smaller and more easily reached.

That it is not OK to encourage a violent uprising that goes against democracy.

I actually believe the senate could convict...have you seen how many Republicans there are who are openly speaking out? People are fleeing the Republican party...damage control time. Once he's out, it will be even easier to do.
