The lawless Wild West eh? AFAIK Wilmington is not on the Atlantic Ocean, but they can see it from there.

It wasn’t lust local, the insurrection spread to the state capital.
I think you missed my point. I simply said that I doubted the Wilmington insurrection was the only instance of a successful government takeover in the US. Towns (and their local governments) changed hands quite a few times under mob pressure, especially in the Wild West.

I do know where North Carolina is.

Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

Among the orders planned soon after taking office are:
A US return to the Paris climate agreement - the global pact on cutting carbon emissions.

Methinks this is a good thing. The second worst polluter should be part of the solution, not just the problem.

Repealing the controversial travel ban on mostly Muslim-majority countries.

So what? Nationals of these countries still need Visas to travel to the US.

Mandating the wearing of masks on federal property and when travelling interstate.

What a good idea!

An extension to nationwide restrictions on evictions and foreclosures due to the pandemic.

This will keep the number of homeless down. But it doesn’t free the individual from the obligation to pay the rents/mortgages when (if) things return to normal.

I am not sure I agree with the people who say our planet is doomed by fossil fuel emissions changing our climate.

I do agree that the emissions from burning fossil fuels contain some very nasty chemicals and so should be stopped/reduced.

You mean you don't agree with "doomed" or don't agree with emissions changing climate?

Nasty chemicals You mean like greenhouse gases?

No they didn't. Sometime there were lynch mobs that formed to hang suspected murderers, rapists, cattle thieves, etc. but nobody was trying to take over the gov't.

Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

Leaving climate change aside, we are beginning to see renewables as being competitive price wise, if not less expensive. Regretfully the money won’t go to big oil, so they are going to fight it tooth and nail.

No town was ever taken over by forces opposing the local government?

The rebellions in your link are a little larger in scale that what I'm talking about, which is more akin to the Wilmington, NC coup. You'll notice that one doesn't make your list, either.

I've no idea how to google that. But I'm sure I've seen documentaries, starring John Wayne, Yul Brynner, and others, on this topic.

Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

I mentioned this risk a couple of times
Quote:
The FBI is screening all 25,000 National Guard troops heading to D.C. as fears mount among defense officials that those responsible for security at the inauguration could participate in an insider attack
Not an easy task for the FBI.

Meanwhile
Quote:
District of Columbia Attorney General Karl Racine warned Sunday that President Donald Trump could possibly be charged by city prosecutors with "a misdemeanor, a six-month-in-jail maximum," amid fallout from the deadly insurrection at the US Capitol earlier this month.

"Let it be known that the office of attorney general has a potential charge that it may utilize," Racine told MSNBC.
This would not be a federal offence so no pardon possibility for Trump. It is claimed people are paying Trump allies huge sums in the hope they will negotiate pardons.

Talking about the Wild West
Quote:
'Cowboys for Trump' founder and New Mexico county commissioner, Couy Griffin, arrested over links to US Capitol attack
Did I ever write "you could not make this stuff up".

Meanwhile, it is claimed former Attorney General William Barr pushed back strongly on President Trump when discussing claims the president was circulating about the election being "stolen" from him.

Barr told the president that such theories of a stolen election were "bullshit"

Sure, but they're in black-or-white therefore racist and no longer acceptable as evidence.

Was there a government worth speaking of in the Wild West to begin with? The term kind of negates that.

Overthrow is a common occurrence in war times, though not by the governed or limited to the town.

Battle of Athens:
Former GIs recently returned from WW2 forced the local government by gunfire + explosives to let them tally the ballots collected during the just-conducted elections. While the election of the new electees is said to have followed democratic rules, civilians using firepower against their local government to get their will done and replace it should fit the bill.

Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

Shameful and extreme grabs at power with such fakeness and no heart. I might be the first to say it on EF, but might as well sign Trump up on the Democratic team, it's almost certain that's his real work.

This guy has handed the Democrats, the winning lottery ticket for the next 2-3 elections.

Trump's legacy is keeping his name in anyone's mouth for the next 15 years verbally and the next 30-40 years through an educational coursebook.

Did you hear that Little Billy & Suzie? Don't lie about how much jam you got on your PB&J, no one likes a Trump.
