Biden: let's hope that he doesn't forget the codes | | | | | I know you mean it as a joke, but the "Biden has dementia" story is wearing pretty thin. Anyone who has listened to any of the incoming president's recent speeches could verify that this is a man who speaks eloquently, concisely, with passion, empathy and quite a dash of humility—a very clear contrast to his predecessor. | Quote: | | | | | Yabut, how do you communicate with a submarine when it is hiding at depth, to tell them where to point the damn things and when to launch them. I know they have some ultra low frequency signals that can signal them, but it isn’t communication, its more like hitting them with a hammer.
A nice fiction that’d been maintained since the 60s. And I seriously doubt the military giving that much power to someone with heel spurs. | | | | | I know I've read in the past about communication with deeply submerged submarines and I recall it's not only possible, but quite advanced. I'd have to do a bit of googling to confirm.
As for Cadet Bone Spurs playing havoc with the nuclear codes, the president has never had sole authority or responsibility for missile launches. A number of individuals (three?) have to co-ordinate to initiate a nuclear strike. The president simply can't do it on his own. That's just a Hollywood fiction.

Many of us are around half Bidens age and we lose our train of thought sometimes or forget words or stumble through memorised sentences... but just when you're a political figure of such magnitude you are expected to be flawless. It's not realistic.
Never mind that Pr. Bush Junior CONSTANTLY misspoke and forgot words during critical speeches all around the world. He was the gaffe king of the USA. Trumps slurring, incoherence and tendency to ramble aimlessly during his speeches was also prolific and worried me far more than anything else... sometimes it sounded like he was drunk or on drugs or was having some kind of discreet stroke.
But in the end, the people in this thread who spoke truth and common sense about Trumps character and motives during this nightmare presidency are now fully vindicated and all of those members who supported Trump and attacked Biden look like the unprincipled, unethical and irrational people with terrible judgement that we always suspected they were throughout their many repetitive posts. Trump was a serial liar, an authoritarian and anti-democratic psychopath without conscience who caused the death of many thousands of Americans through his inept handling and denial of the seriousness of the pandemic, he tried to rig the election and actively subvert democracy... and people knew that and still defended him. Those in this thread know who you are.
Sometimes it's ok to be smug, and the end of this disastrous presidency is one of those times. I hope he gets what's coming to him.

Fortunately, the USA is not ready for the scrap yard just yet, despite Trump's best efforts.

Apparently, the ELF messages are very short and simply send a secret code that requires the nation's submarines to release a buoy with an antenna on a long cable that floats below the surface and uses normal communication methods.

The lawsuit was based on evidence-challenged claims of fraud and even went so far as to say that the late Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez – who’s been dead for years – could have played a role in throwing Georgia for Biden.
Powell herself is facing a lawsuit from Dominion over her claims, saying her viral allegations against the company cost it business.
It is seeking more than $1.3 billion in damages. | | | | | Hopefully, for Dominion her insurance will cover the claim payout otherwise it could be very costly with little return.

Tom | | | | | I like Biden. I think he's a decent and humble person and he's willing to listen and to learn. Even at his age and with his experience and his status. IMHO

I don't think or at least I hope he won't be a new horror! | | | | | Yup, Biden is clearly a decent and empathetic human being. He is literally the complete opposite of Trump in many respects.

The concept of a president pardoning convicted (or even indicted, or not-yet-but-might-be-indicted) felons is very odd to me. How can one person, in this case with no legal training whatsoever, make a valid assessment of another person's guilt or otherwise, without even reviewing any aspect of their legal case? It's transparently clear that such pardons are purely political and have nothing to do with correcting legal errors, and they open the door to corruption; aides (cough Giuliani cough) close to Trump are said to have demanded up to $2 million for a pardon.
I'm sure this isn't what the Founding Fathers intended. Why can't legal pardons be left to the courts, where a full and comprehensive appeal system exists?

In a (hopefully) last petty act Biden was not supplied a government plane for his trip to DC for the inauguration, meanwhile air force one carries the worst president ever to Florida on the taxpayer dime. I would love for it still to be in the air at 12.00 and Biden orders if back, but thats not who Biden is.

| | Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got? | Quote: | | | | | With all due respect to your personal knowledge of acquaintances’ voting trends, my guess is that they don’t represent the US as a whole.
As it turns out, I know quite a few Trump supporters who are not college educated.
From the CNN exit poll https://edition.cnn.com/election/202...tional-results
89% of black voters 18-29 voted for Biden
48% of white voters with a college degree voted for Trump, as did 67% of white voters without a college degree.
That would disagree with your observations. | | | | | He *always* knows someone who can be used as an example in lieu of an argument, think of it as 'Many people, important people, have told me....'
