...Charged but not found guilty. Seems a strange decision to go with first-degree, with jury selection and the video evidence I wouldn't expect him to be found guilty.
It could be a calculated decision on the prosecutor's part, to hopefully get him to plead to a lesser charge and avoid the circus of a trial. Plea deals are super common in the States. I think some countries don't even have such a thing. Does Switzerland have a plea bargain system?

Trump supporter?

Source

He travelled from Illinois to Wisconsin, presumably with the aim of killing protestors.
I just watched the video of the shooting for the first time (in your link there). Just... Wow. That is, to say the least... extremely disturbing.

I'm certainly not trying to turn this into a debate about guns, but I think this is one of the big problems with guns. When someone has one, that gun just adds to their sense of righteousness. "I have the ability to kill you, so let me use that to prove to you how right I am." I literally feel shaken after watching that.

What the hell is happening to my country?

Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

I've been hearing a lot from speakers (mostly from the Trump family, it seems) at the RNC along the lines that "only Donald Trump can solve the issues facing America today... Donald Trump is the only person who can stop the riots and protests... nobody but Donald Trump can rescue the American economy..."

Donald Trump has been president of the US for more than 3.5 years. Those things, and many others, still haven't been fixed. If Trump can't fix them now as president, what makes him or anybody else believe that he can and will fix them if he gets a second term?

The answer is that no-one at the RNC thinks Trump will fix any problem and many of those outside his family and inner circle who should know better, and have in the past known better, are now governed by fear and self-preservation at the expense of doing what they know is fundamentally wrong. It is now purely about retaining power and zero about the actual best interests of the country. It's now a show of corruption and authoritarianism.

The USA is facing an existential crisis as a first-world democracy and if Trump is re-elected I predict that major powers like Russia and China will make power gains the like of which have not been seen in decades as they exploit the USA's (specifcally Trump and his cabinets) many and varied foreign policy and diplomatic weaknesses.

Dark times are ahead uness The Dems take back the Whitehouse, because 4 more years of Trump will very likely cause significant long-term damage to the USA that will take a long time to fix as he systematically dismantles the democratic processes, environmental protections and changes regulations in favour of big business. Not to mention the internal strife caused by his fascist rhetoric and extreme divisiveness.

I firmly believe that Trump is now one of the most dangerous world leaders on the planet through virtue of the power he wields combined with his abject combined lack of intelligence, wisdom, experience, empathy compassion, moral compass and restraint he has to wield it with. I think he may well be the first true psychopath (at least that I know of) that has even been US President.

Trump is all about marketing a weak or defective product through misleading advertising. He’ll always find buyers for his promises and believers who heed the the GOP/Trump’s “warnings or omens.”

The RNC is fantastic at making their competition look weak. It’s their specialty.

What is your source or have you been hearing voices in the night again.

Prosecutors filed more charges against Rittenhouse on Thursday, adding one count of reckless homicide, a count for attempted intentional homicide and two counts of recklessly endangering safety.
Court records show he's also being charged with possession of a dangerous weapon while under the age of 18.

It is claimed more video has emerged of the first shooting.

Re: Trump or Biden .Who you got?

The BBC has fact checked the speech of Mr. Trump

1. "If you give power to Joe Biden, the radical left will defund police departments all across America"
"I do not support defunding police. The better answer is to give police departments the resources they need to implement meaningful reforms, and to condition other federal dollars on completing those reforms," Biden wrote.
2: "We have already built 300 miles of border wall"
A total of 245 miles of wall has been built in place of old barriers.
But only 30 miles of new wall has actually been built.
Most of this (25 miles) is what's called "secondary wall", which is constructed to reinforce the primary border barrier.
The border with Mexico is about 2,000 miles long.
3: "Over the past three months, we have gained over 9 million jobs, a new record"
But what Mr Trump didn't mention was that this rise followed a much bigger loss of 22 million people from the payroll in March, when measures to tackle the pandemic were introduced.
5: "He [Joe Biden] has pledged a $4 trillion tax hike on almost all American families"
However, this claim is misleading as the taxes would target the wealthiest Americans - not "almost all American families".
The Tax Policy Centre found that 93% of the tax increases would be paid by taxpayers in the top fifth of households.
High earners would see "substantially larger tax increases than households in other income groups, both in dollar amounts and as a share of their incomes."
Joe Biden has told ABC News that he would not raise taxes for anyone making under $400,000 a year.
6: "We obliterated 100% of the ISIS caliphate"
"despite the demise of its physical caliphate, IS remains a battle-hardened and well-disciplined force whose "enduring defeat" is not assured."
On 12 August a top US military official laid out what was needed to score an enduring defeat against IS, noting the group still posed a threat.
7: "We will always, and very strongly, protect patients with pre-existing conditions, and that is a pledge from the entire Republican Party"
In June, the administration asked the US Supreme Court to permanently end Obamacare - which includes those provisions for people with pre-existing conditions. If successful, it's not clear what the Trump administration would replace it with. President Trump has signalled that he may make insurers cover people with pre-existing conditions but there's no detail yet.
I left out 4 (Coronovirus) and 8 (Nato contributions). But follow the link to read those.

I suspect Trump will win, unfortunately. Although he isn't much younger than Biden, he gives the impression of being more vigorous, even if that's expressed in nonsense talk and tweeting.

During the 2016 election a significant portion of the electorate abstained from voting. It will only take a very small shift in those numbers to change the result.

I think intelligent people would prefer someone calm and sane, regardless of their age, to a narcissistic bully who has more "vigor." I don't understand why some people think that a US president or someone running for president needs to have a huge, over-the-top type of personality.

But if Trump does win, I do worry that some of the reason for that will be the violent protests that have been going on. People are worried about their communities and businesses being burnt down and looted, and in my opinion, that's understandable. I can feel myself becoming increasingly frustrated with these violent protestors, in part because I fear that they're going to inadvertently sabotage Biden's chances of winning by causing less people to vote for him.

If we are talking about "walking corpses", she (80) is even older than he is.

She's been around the political scene so long there are photos of her with JFK.

Basically Trump’s reelection message:
  • Give him credit for the economic recovery he inherited from Obama.
  • Blame someone else for the disastrous response to the coronavirus.

Probably you are correct and enough people will swallow this

It's amusing that the Democrats paint themselves as the "good guys" in all this, when they're both as bad as each other. What's also clear to see is that the more they paint themselves (and the campaign) as good verses evil, the more extremist they become.

Whilst two or three of those points are valid, the majority of it just comes across as nit-picking. Was there a "fact check" performed by the BBC for Joe Biden's speech? Happy to be corrected however I expect there wasn't. Sadly the BBC is also so vehemently anti-Trump that it will have to also join the queue of media outlets who will need to take a long hard look at themselves (again) when Mr Trump wins in November.

Seems to me that you are the one with a strong bias. The BBC is renowned for its balanced reporting. You, on the other hand... Well, you're not.

I guess it never occurred to you that there might be some very good reasons why some people and some media outlets are against Trump?

Also, just because someone wins an election doesn't make them a good leader or a good person. Hitler and the Nazis won by a landslide in 1932 and the majority of Germans supported them and didn't question their ethics.

Furthermore, Trump, his supporters and the right-wing media have been doing their best to try to demonize Biden. Do you think they're going to stop doing that if Biden wins?
