All the more reason to at least pretend that there are no limitations.

Of course there's a ton of behind-the-scene dealing and agreements. Getting someone in such a position, i.e. an alpha person, to agree to settle for second best and keep from pushing for the top position is probably almost impossible. The VP's willingness and ability(!) to enter into and exercise such an agreement seems likely to exclude 90% of the candidates, and many of the remaining will be ineligible because they have too many skeletons in the closet.

In the current climate each and every Democrat with a public profile who'd even remotely suggest anything to that end would be immediately shot down and canceled. Immediately, and without the slightest chance for a comeback.

And as for the derogative "old white men" ... this is a sexist, ageist and racist term. Nothing could demonstrate the double standards of the woketivists and modern feminists any better.

Hillary did an absolutely awful job in 2016. Maybe time just to consider people on their own merits rather than determining their merits by their gender and ethnicity, which is a frankly appalling concept.

Incidentally I thought the best Democratic candidate was female this time around - Amy Klobuchar. Mayor Pete also wasn't bad, but President is too big a step up for him.

I was even a re-election campaign chair for a UK female (and bi/homosexual- not sure exactly what she defines herself as and don't really care) cabinet minister. That should narrow it down a bit!

Of course, the truth is, as an Expat American who probably will never live in the US again, neither candidate will do jack squat about US involvement (e.g., taxes, FATCA) in expat affairs, and neither will make any policy changes that will make it easier for US citizens to live abroad.

So i guess one votes for the candidate one thinks will make the US more habitable for those remaining there.

But those that do have a vote, please exercise your right. I don't care who you vote for, but just vote. As it is complicated for expats, you should be preparing now to exercise your rights.

Dunno. Am mid 60’s. Lots of people I know - tail end of baby boomers are still voting “progressive”.

As dark-humoured as that is, it does have a strong tang of irony about it that the userbase the president relies on are the ones doing the least to protect themselves.
