It’s always a local maximum problem. | | | | | All the more reason to at least pretend that there are no limitations.
Of course there's a ton of behind-the-scene dealing and agreements. Getting someone in such a position, i.e. an alpha person, to agree to settle for second best and keep from pushing for the top position is probably almost impossible. The VP's willingness and ability(!) to enter into and exercise such an agreement seems likely to exclude 90% of the candidates, and many of the remaining will be ineligible because they have too many skeletons in the closet. | Quote: | | | | | I guess that's one way of looking at it but I prefer an honest approach in that he is declaring his intentions rather than putting a man on the list only to satisfy those who feel a man should be represented as well. | | | | | Like, who?
In the current climate each and every Democrat with a public profile who'd even remotely suggest anything to that end would be immediately shot down and canceled. Immediately, and without the slightest chance for a comeback.
And as for the derogative "old white men" ... this is a sexist, ageist and racist term. Nothing could demonstrate the double standards of the woketivists and modern feminists any better.

Urs
I stand behind each of those VP candidates and your premise that they will be shot down is a matter of opinion.
I should have added “largely corrupt” old white men.

Maybe time just to consider people on their own merits rather than determining their merits by their gender and ethnicity, which is a frankly appalling concept.
Incidentally I thought the best Democratic candidate was female this time around - Amy Klobuchar. Mayor Pete also wasn't bad, but President is too big a step up for him.

I think it propagates division and stokes the fires of trumpism personally. I genuinely don't give a damn what gender, sexuality or ethnicity my candidate is as long as they represent my views.
I was even a re-election campaign chair for a UK female (and bi/homosexual- not sure exactly what she defines herself as and don't really care) cabinet minister. That should narrow it down a bit!

And until it is leveled, affirmative action has a place. But that’s my opinion, and there you have it.

Of course, the truth is, as an Expat American who probably will never live in the US again, neither candidate will do jack squat about US involvement (e.g., taxes, FATCA) in expat affairs, and neither will make any policy changes that will make it easier for US citizens to live abroad.
So i guess one votes for the candidate one thinks will make the US more habitable for those remaining there.

by the time November comes, I think the Orange Man will have lost many of those who voted for him to COVID-19. There goes the popular majority he never had.......
but he will live on in the Twitterverse forever.

Someone who recognises that multilateralism sure beats going it alone.
But those that do have a vote, please exercise your right. I don't care who you vote for, but just vote. As it is complicated for expats, you should be preparing now to exercise your rights.

If anything, aging demographics represent an uphill slope for "progressives". | | | | | Dunno. Am mid 60’s. Lots of people I know - tail end of baby boomers are still voting “progressive”.

I would be somewhat morbidly interested in knowing mortality rates from COVID19 of Democrats vs Republicans to see if there is any significant correlation...

This is a fascinating place. On one hand, mods go on about welcoming different opinions. On the other, certain members will groan you if they disagree with your OPINION. But I guess that welcome works only for the right opinion.

Affirmative action has it's share of critics, multiplied by politics and you're sure to ruffle a few feathers.
