Hillary did an absolutely awful job in 2016. Maybe time just to consider people on their own merits rather than determining their merits by their gender and ethnicity, which is a frankly appalling concept.

Incidentally I thought the best Democratic candidate was female this time around - Amy Klobuchar. Mayor Pete also wasn't bad, but President is too big a step up for him.
Hillary had almost 3 million votes more than Trump; the highest margin ever by a losing candidate.
"absolutely awful job" is a trifle exaggerated

Hate the game, not the player?
Except the player made some tactical errors in the focus of their efforts. I didn't realise any of this at the time, I can remember waking up and thinking I'll check to see how much Hilary won by. I'd no idea that Trump had drummed up so much support and was a bit shocked, then bewildered.

The "anybody but Hilary" crowd don't really want to attack Biden as much, which is a partial mystery to me as he was in the same administration. Unless its misogyny of course, or that she's been around too long in the spotlight.

This is a fascinating place. On one hand, mods go on about welcoming different opinions. On the other, certain members will groan you if they disagree with your OPINION. But I guess that welcome works only for the right opinion.
Anything is better than your denigrating others behind their backs, children no less.

May I surmise you’re a white male? If the playing field were level, that’s great. But the playing field is not level for everyone. And until it is leveled, affirmative action has a place. But that’s my opinion, and there you have it.
I am a white male, but my daughter is mixed race. FWIW I think she has much more more of a chance in life than the average white male in the north of England town I come from originally.

Democrats, UK Labour and the "progressive" left in general have ignored class issues and it's cost them big time. There was a time (not very long ago) when WWC union types dominated the left wing selectorate and thus the WWC felt represented and so voted left.

They've basically given up huge chunks of this massive block by parachuting candidates (sometimes diverse, sometimes not) from the chattering classes into these sorts of places.

Bidens strength should be doing better than Hillary with this group. He's a poor candidate - but this should be one of his few plus points.

I see how you and others could think that. I don't agree, but I see where you're coming from.

...as for the derogative "old white men" ... this is a sexist, ageist and racist term. Nothing could demonstrate the double standards of the woketivists and modern feminists any better.
You can argue it's a little bit that, but it's also simply descriptive. Here are a few examples for you.
Trump = 74, white
Biden = 78, white

The race for President is truly between two white men over the age of 65, or to put it less elegantly, "two old white guys".

Now let's look at Congress. All of the top leaders are white, only one is a woman and only one is under the age of 65
  • Senate majority leader: Mitch McConnell, 78
  • Senate minority leader: Chuck Schumer, 69
  • President Pro Temporae of Senate: Chuck Grassley, 87 next month
  • Speaker of the House: Nancy Pelosi, 80
  • House Majority Leader: Steny Hoyer, 81
  • House minority leader: Kevin McCarthy, 55
Gender distribution of Congress:
  • 100 senators - 74 are male, 26 female
  • 435 representatives - 330 male, 105 female
Race distribution of Congress (total of 535 seats):
  • White - 404
  • African American -56
  • Hispanic/Latino - 51
  • Asian/Pacific Islander - 20
  • Native American - 4
Age is harder to nail down with a quick stat, and averages don't mean much when the spread is so large. The youngest member of Congress is 30, and the oldest is 87.

Taking it even further, there are 25 committees in the U.S. Senate. The chairs of these committees are very powerful individuals who are able to determine what bills come to the floor for debate and eventually vote. These are the folks with the power to determine what becomes law.

Some individuals hold two or more chairs, thus why the numbers don't equal 25:
  • 18 chairs are held by men and 2 by women
  • 17 of the 18 men are white. Both women are also white
  • 14 of the 17 white men are aged 65 or over
TL;DR: Although it might sound ageist, racist and sexist to say "old white men" have the most power in U.S. government, it's a pretty accurate statement.

You could also say that US voters prefer old white men.

Anyway, I hope that Trump will be reelected so that the Americans will finally learn that there political system has failed.

Wasn't it Obama who famously said something about old white men having no future, that all they had was their bibles and guns. And he said it more in a taunting aggressive way than in a "here is a problem we're going to fix" sort of way. And in saying that he unleashed a lot of anger, which is essentially what Trump was able to capitalize on. Hillary of course did nothing to reach out to that demographic either but rubbed it in even deeper with her "basket of depolrables" comment. In other words, America was ruled by people who openly admitted to having a deep hate for large chunks of the population. If any of them had said the same about any other segment of the population there would have been riots on the streets. Any healing process needs to take that into account and disown these past comments. The people who sniggered when Obama and Hillary said that are not coming across as sufficiently credible to do that. Being Obama's VP, or wife for that matter, is being on the wrong side of the solution.

There is overwhelming evidence that he is in mental decline:

2012:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiGZzNEZmHY

2019:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADDrSvNyqEY

He's tired, and you can't blame him - but I really won't watch the debates. With both him and Trump on the podiums, it will be as embarrassing as f@c#.
Sorry, that's not overwhelming evidence. As already noted, the first clip is of a much-rehearsed speech to a very large and very important audience. The second is a collection of short snippets, cherry-picked to make Biden look bad. I am a very competent public speaker and (I think) in full possession of my mental faculties, and I slip up all the time. Malapropisms, slight mispronunciations, even the occasional unintended spoonerism, all accidental and all par for the course. (And of course, Trump is far worse, through a lack of education and experience and very narrow reading. But none of these produce "overwhelming evidence" that Trump is in mental decline.)

More importantly, how many of the people leaping to the conclusion that one or the other candidate is suffering from dementia actually know what dementia looks like? I have two very close family members currently suffering from dementia. One is now quite advanced, while the other (although older) is less so. I assure you, a man who takes on the daily tasks that Joe Biden does, and who speaks at the level (and without notes or teleprompters) that Joe Biden does, is not suffering any form of dementia.

Actually, no. You're one of only a very few people that use them like that. For most folks, they're more commonly used if someone is offensive, deliberately controversial or taunting, making ridiculous arguments, or being blatantly racist/sexist/whateverist.

Your own thanks and groan record shows that you spread them around in good measure and proportion, but you do sometimes irritate people who take them more personally, whether intended that way or not.

I also admire Biden for choosing a female VP in a time where the government is led by old white men.
I don't see olygirl saying that there's necessarily anything wrong with old white men. As far as I can see, she's just applauding efforts to breathe some change into the establishment. Isn't that what Trump also promised (but abjectly failed) to do; to drain the swamp?

A couple of hours ago Trump went on live TV and suggested that the "pandemic of 1917" ended... wait for it... WWII!

If ever there was ever conrete evidence of how terrifyingly stupid and ignorant this wet meatsack is, then this is it. Just watch the first couple of minutes.

Sometimes I feel that way too and want to watch it all go to hell...except if he is re-elected, it will go to hell and never come back. My father and other loved ones are there, and there are many good people back home.

Plus, whether we like it or not, the stability of America does have an impact on the rest of the world.
