Re: Trump and first lady test positive for coronavirus

An article on ABC News this morning says that Trump "arrived at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, Friday evening after experiencing a low-grade fever, chills, nasal congestion and cough, multiple sources with direct knowledge of the matter tell ABC News."

I have no idea how true that is in terms of his symptoms (but at the same time, no real reason to doubt it). Normally people don't go to the hospital for mild symptoms, but being that he is POTUS, he may have been admitted for precautionary measures and to be better monitored.

Maybe, but it is not like the White House does not have a hospital in the basement.

And he has been given an experimental drug, not available to the vast majority of Americans.

We are all in it together! NOT!

I've never heard of the White House having a hospital in it before, but apparently, most Presidents go to one of two hospitals when they require that kind of medical care:

"Since FDR, most presidents have used a military hospital close to Washington, D.C., either Bethesda or Walter Reed AMC, as the primary facility for them and their immediate family to receive medical care."

There is a "White House Medical Unit" located inside the White House, but it is not a hospital.

Re: Trump and first lady test positive for coronavirus

I see in another report that he's been taken to the Walter Reed hospital for tests. So it could be that it wasn't necessarily his symptoms requiring him to be hospitalized. He did post a video of himself last night thanking people for the well wishes and saying that he's going to the hospital for tests. He appears to be okay, in the video.

Re: Trump and first lady test positive for coronavirus

Lots of speculation that this is a big show designed to distract from the many problems he is facing... but as others have said surely this would require such a level of secrecy and conspiracy as to be really hard to pull off?

Still, it's suspicious with the lack of medical info available, he is apparently being given experimental treatment (really, experiment on a POTUS?) and he IS a known and proven pathological liar. So even extreme things such as him using this disease to create a show and avoid upcoming debates from ruining his chances of re-lection are sadly possible.

I'm keeping an open mind, even to things that would usually sound crazy. Because he is crazy..

I think he probably will try to turn it into a "show" of some sort -- because he seems to treat everything as though he's still on a reality television show -- and will use the virus as a means to garner attention and sympathy. But I'd be very surprised if him having the virus was some kind of conspiracy. At the same time, though, I'm not sure I'd put anything past him at this point.

Re: Trump and first lady test positive for coronavirus

He lies more than he tells the truth and is a chronic and ruthless manipulator devoid of any empathy.

There's absolutely nothing I would put past him. He'd do anything to get whatever it is he wants.

Obviously it already works - Trump corona watch is on, all eyes on him, dominating all media outlets, blablabla. Perfect.

I'm utterly disappointed that Trump can't handle a simple Chinese cold. I'm even more disappointed that he didn't choose to be treated with hydroxychloroquine, and would be even more disappointed if he would still be in the hospital in November and has to vote by mail.

Re: Trump and first lady test positive for coronavirus

I hope that the president and first lady fully recover, as one would hope for anyone afflicted by this horrible virus.

And I hope that Trump is soon well enough to continue campaigning. On the face of it perhaps an odd sentiment from someone so profoundly opposed to Trump, but...

Were Trump to become incapacitated or otherwise unable to run, we still have Trumpism to deal with. Trump the martyr becomes a very powerful rallying cry, likely further exciting his base, pushing this movement into taking extreme action. The hatreds and divisivness that brought about Trumpism would remain a threat to American democracy.

If Pence, or anyone else, were to take over the ticket even a rejection of that candidate would not be seen by the base as a rejection of Trumpism.

No, the only way to even begin to get rid of Trumpism is for Trump himself to be resoundingly, clearly, defeated at the polls. Trumpists must see both their idol and ideology rejected by their friends, neighbors, cohorts. Trumpism must be defeated along with Trump.

I can't see any other way to win the battle for America's soul.

He has already voted by ‘absentee ballot’ by mail.

I think most people who supported or still support Trump just don't engage with left wing people online or in real life social settings, instead they quietly vote on election day. So friends and neighbours rejecting Trumpism is irrelevant to such supporters.

If I could vote, I would NOT vote for Trump but neither do I like left wing mass hysteria, identity politics or SJW crowds in general!

Okay, thanks for clearing that up then. I had actually done a google search about it and wasn't able to find anything in terms of there being something similar to an actual "hospital" in the White House, so I guess I was just kind of deceived by the search results.

I wonder why they took him to Walter Reed then, if the White House is so well-equipped. But maybe there isn't the proper equipment there to do the tests he needs.

And vice versa!

Btw, plenty of republicans not voting for Trump this time around.

It will be very interesting to watch.

I did not like George W. Bush, but I do think he is or was more sane, more mature and a better leader than Trump. I also don't think that Bush Jr. encouraged Americans to hate one another the way Trump does.
