Question for lefties, George W. Bush vs Trump. Who do you hate less?
I will reply to this as a non American as I was giving quite a lot of thought about it:
Bush (and Cheney) biggest crime was so called "war on terror"and destroying Iraq, both led to rise of ISIS and destabilising the whole region. While it is not comparable with the 2nd war nazis crimes it is in my opinion similar to "Holodomor", Mao's cultural revolution or genocide in Rwanda, it was just in name of money.
Biggest complain against Trump is bringing a dividing populistic rhetoric as an acceptable political speech and pushing the norms lower. First one has a negative impact on democracy, which should be finding an acceptable solution not going for winner takes it all. And second, there is not much difference between Clinton's cigar smoking and Trumps grabbing, no one was held responsible.

So even if I am repulsed by Trump's rhetoric, it doesn't have much impact outside of USA and till now, USA has always showed an resilience ability to reinstate democratic processes, at least on it's own territory. So it is by far the first one who should be judged for crimes against humanity.

Its like comparing the flavors of a rotten apple and a putrid orange.

Bush(&Cheney, Rumsfeld, &co.) were worse IMO.

Okay, thanks for clearing that up then. I had actually done a google search about it and wasn't able to find anything in terms of there being something similar to an actual "hospital" in the White House, so I guess I was just kind of deceived by the search results.

I wonder why they took him to Walter Reed then, if the White House is so well-equipped. But maybe there isn't the proper equipment there to do the tests he needs.
I donít think they even have a hospital bed. Walter Reed is a hospital.

I think most people who supported or still support Trump just don't engage with left wing people online or in real life social settings, instead they quietly vote on election day. So friends and neighbours rejecting Trumpism is irrelevant to such supporters.

If I could vote, I would NOT vote for Trump but neither do I like left wing mass hysteria, identity politics or SJW crowds in general!
I'm not talking about anything so fuzzy as discussions IRL or in the media, I'm talking about Trumpists seeing local folks, people they know and consider 'good folk', actively campaign for Biden, and then Trumpists seeing Trump and just as importantly down-ballot Trump supporters lose in their local election districts.

That might indeed explain, then, why I wasn't able to find anything confirming the other member's post that the White House has a hospital inside of it.

Thanks for sharing that. It's really informative. I especially found it interesting when he explains phases I, II and III and how the way someone's immune system responds in phase II is what determines whether or not they will require hospitalization, progressing into phase III. It's also interesting how it says that someone is usually in phase II for at least one week before it is known if they will 'advance' into phase III, requiring oxygen, etc.

Re: Trump and first lady test positive for coronavirus

Loosely translated user comment from NZZ:

1st: fake news (doesn't he love that?) cause why would we believe anything coming out of Trump's or the WH's mouth at this point.
2nd: Trump will "survive" and give his supporters yet more proof how he's invincible. The Dems will fall for it and try to show how badly he's managing the Covid situation.
3rd: Trump will try to explain to folks how it's all not bad, and blame he Dems for shutting down the economy and ruin everyone.
4th: The Dems will be painted as anti-economy, dictatorial and too cautious, trying to push their people (esp. minorities, African-Americans, single parents, low-income folks) into unemployment and poverty.
5th: Trump shows his solidarity, claiming those are precisely the people he will be there for.
6th: Said people, who probably would have voted Dem, will vote for him.
7th: The Dems will lose. Check mate.

And that is pretty much spot on.

I don't think that Trump having the virus now is really going to change people's minds much in terms of who they're voting for (that is, unless of course something happens to Trump and it comes down to Biden versus Pence, which I find unlikely).

Many people I know who do not always vote Dem are not voting for Trump because they think he's an awful president, and him having the virus isn't going to change that opinion. If anything, I think -- or would hope -- that more people will just wake up in terms of how important it is to take this virus more seriously -- something that Trump himself has not done.

I will be surprised if Trump does not win the election, though... Not because I think he's a better candidate, but because I think the majority of Americans (or at least a high percentage of them) are ignorant.

A timely reminder that Trump cannot go now, particularly as he hasn't seen the latest Bond film who's release
date has been put back yet again until April next year.

Trump must be wetting his pants.

If Trump with the best Docs does not pull through then what chance do normal people like us have, if we enter Corona land?

Well, we are not all 74, male and obese. Serious complications seem to be the luck of the draw. Most people donít get them, but those that do, will be very ill.

Under the US system what happens to the vote if Trump is unable to run? Votes, for him have already been cast. Will they be transferred automatically to Pence? Or will they be abandoned? What about the millions of ballots with his name on them. Do they remain valid?

He surrounds himself with extremely vain women who feel the need to try to present themselves like Barbie dolls. Have you seen what his ex, Ivana Trump, looks like now?

I'm almost sorry to say it, because I feel bad for what happened to her (Trump cheating on her, etc.), but it looks like she has more Botox than brain cells.

Trump is on the ballot in all 50 states, even if he doesn't live until Election Day. If he dies before the election, then Pence would become president.

The Republican party would then have to nominate a new candidate. Odds are that candidate would be Pence, as it would be the fastest and least complicated thing to do. Pence's name is already on the ballot, so the legal eagles could potentially argue voters knew whom they were voting for.

Some states have laws that say the electors for the Electoral College must vote for the candidate that won, but the laws are silent on what to do if the person that won is deceased.

In short, it could get messy. Article here with some info:
https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/202...election-covid

If Trump was elected and died after the election but before inauguration day, Pence would become president both in the interim and on his own term starting in January. That's because if the president-elect dies before inauguration day, the vice-president elect becomes president-elect.

Best-case scenario is Trump survives and whoever wins does so by a large, indisputable margin.
