Because Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, etc, ain't far enough over for me to call them mid-west. Well, really anything west of Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi right the way over to Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico I'd call mid-west and the other states west of those are west. I don't do north/south divide and it would probably be better if most Americans didn't either.

And iirc didn't most states have to vote on joining the union? If that's the case, then surely they can vote to leave it as well.
I'm from CO. We certainly are not the wild mid-west. Proper Wild West, thank you.

Surely according to Hollywood history, wasn't the Emperor Maximillian's forces soundly defeated by the Mexicans
thanks to the timely intervention of John Wayne ? In fact John Wayne & Richard Widmark were even at
The Alamo ! !
I only know the true story because we have a villa in Trieste, on viale Miramare, the road to the castle of his widow!

If Texas secedes then someone will have to move Trump's border wall to the north.

Problems solved long ago.

I have a pending trip to the Mannheim Kunsthalle where this nice painting of Éduoard Manet is hosted. The snowflake of Napoleon III censored this painting in France during Manet's lifetime. The irony of the Mexican execution squad with the French uniform was deemed toooooo offensive. The only places where it was shown to the public at the time was in Boston and NYC. The Germans happily bought the painting some years later and it's been there since a century ago.

Bonus: for some reason the NYC MET has a photo collection of the firing squad, the shirt with hole and the corpse. Also the graphite drawings that inspired Manet. I also need to visit that museum once.

Re: The Texit referendum thread: Dont mess with Texas

Just had to post this somewhere
Quote:
The Satanic Temple is challenging the recently enacted abortion restrictions in Texas, citing religious freedoms.

The religion said on its website that it stands “ready to assist” any of its members who want to fight the law. It said has lobbied the state for an exemption to the law under its own religious freedom law — Texas Religious Freedom Restoration Act (TRFRA).

The group said if the state declines to provide the exemption, then it will seek “judicial relief.”

Re: The Texit referendum thread: Dont mess with Texas

Talking about Texas elections, a week after the 2020 election, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced that he was offering up to $1 million "to reward people to come forward and report voter fraud and to support President Trump's efforts to identify voter fraud".

So far he has only paid out $25,000 to a Democrat poll worker who reported a Republican attempting to vote twice.

Karma.
