As I've mentioned before, it would serve the US better if Trump was tried within a courtroom rather than the Senate...not only non-partisan, but courtrooms seem to be the last sanctuary of fact, truth and reality that remain in that country.
Non-partisan??? Even the dog in the street knows which party a US judge supports!

The House GOP is threatening an opposing action against Ilhan Omar, due to anti-semetic remarks she made not long ago. But here the difference is that Omar apologised, and there was unanimous Democratic condemnation of her actions.
Another difference is the depth to which one has to dig to decide that Omar's comments were anti-Semitic. Here are her comments that drew fire:
  • Tweeting about McCarthy's threat to punish Omar for being critical of Israel [note, Israel, not Jews)]: "It's all about the Benjamins baby".
  • Stating that the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) funds Republican support for Israel. [It does, that's simply a fact.]
  • Comments in a speech at a bookstore: "I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it is OK for people to push for allegiance to a foreign country. I want to ask why is it OK for me to talk about the influence of the NRA (National Rifle Association), of fossil fuel industries or Big Pharma, and not talk about a powerful lobbying group that is influencing policies?"[The bit about foreign allegiance was poorly phrased and invited criticism, for which Omar apologised. The latter sounds like a fair point to me.]

Compare these comments to Marjorie Taylor Greene's Jewish space lasers and other anti-Jewish statements (also anti-Muslim and anti-black, but let's save those for another day):
  • Embracing QAnon, writing that Q believes the world is funded by prominent Jews George Soros and the Rothschilds.
  • Tweeting that President Obama arranged for Seth Rich [a Democrat!] to be killed by the MS-13 street gang.
  • Sharing a video created by 4chan and 8chan members warning of a Jewish plot to destroy European society.
  • Claiming that George Soros, a Holocaust survivor, had collaborated with the Nazis, and later describing him as "the Nazi himself trying to continue what was not finished". [She seems to have somewhat confused ideas of Semitism and Nazism.]
  • In reference to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, one of which -- the Pentagon strike -- she had denied even happened, tweeting that "our government lies to us so much to protect the Deep State" [a term usually meant to imply a secret, Jewish-controlled cabal attempting to control the world).
  • Writing that the death of Heather Heyer at the Charlottesville alt-right and opposition rallies [remember fine people on both sides?] was staged to further the aims of "the elites", and the alt-right killer of Ms Heyer was paid to do so by George Soros.
  • In a video she shot herself, calling David Hogg, a survivor of the Parkland school shooting and now a gun control advocate, a coward, and claiming (yawn) that he was funded by George Soros. Greene has also claimed that Parkland and other shootings were either faked or false flag operations.
  • Posting on Facebook that space lasers operated by the Rothschilds were responsible for starting the California Camp Fire bushfire.
  • Posing for photos with neo-Nazi and leader of the Ku Klux Klan, Charles Dole, while holding a sign for his alt-right group American Patriots USA.

Anyone heard any apologies from Greene for her anti-Jewish comments, any one of which is orders of magnitude more anti-Semitic than anything Omar has said or written?

Indeed, almost all US judges are either political appointees or are elected.

Re: Marjorie Taylor Greene

with regards to Ilhan Omar and MTG.

"In a speech on the House floor Thursday, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer held up a sign showing a Facebook post by then-House candidate Marjorie Taylor Greene that has since been taken down. The image shows GOP Rep. Greene posing with a gun next to photos of Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib"

Of course, but with perhaps the exception of Noami Rao and pretty much all of Texas, judges seem to put justice before partisanship. The 60 odd election challenges proved that.

True. I was very surprised to see that. Pleasantly so.

Re: Marjorie Taylor Greene

Thanks to McCarthy, the GOP have now green-lit the Kook wing of the party, with the principled representatives almost certain to be made to walk the plank. The only hope is if Mitch wakes up tomorrow and realises just how much Trump f**ked him and votes to impeach.

Failing that, all the Dems have to do is hold the course and watch the Reps either split or implode before losing a ton of seats at the mid-terms.

Re: Marjorie Taylor Greene

Twitter temporarily suspends Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for vaccine misinformation

https://edition.cnn.com/2021/07/19/p...ban/index.html
