I am looking forward to see his tax returns, aren't you?
To be honest, no. I’m tired of his shenanigans getting oxygen.

It’s also possible that while the New York southern district gets to see the returns, the public does not.

I am very curious about your comment regarding size of government? In your view, am I to surmise that government should play a larger role as the populace cannot think for itself? We need a larger government to tell us how to live?

And your reference regarding "just one religion", there are many religions within the Christianity realm. To which do you refer?

Completely agree with your firearms reference; as for universal healthcare, well that sounds great in theory, but in a country as large as the US, not so easy to implement.

Obamacare helped not only those with pre-existing conditions (excellent!) and those who could not afford coverage but also, it benefited insurance companies who ramped up premiums and then some. Insurance companies in the US reaped ridiculous rewards - sad but true.

As a reference, we bought a "Silver Care" policy for our daughter in 2013 as she took a leave of absence from her uni/college in the US. At the time, we spent $264 a month for a pretty good policy. Fast forward, and my daughter is out of college and looking for a job in 2018. That same policy now costs $658 (with the same insurance company) except...the policy is reduced in scope and doesn't cover many things it had covered in 2014! And Obamacare did away with competitive bidding as we have only one insurance company which services our county. Prior to Obamacare, there were 3-4 insurance companies which offered plans in our area.

The US healthcare is a mess frankly. I am not sure how one can salvage it...
You're welcome to draw conclusions about what governments do, but you won't be able to do that from what I wrote. All I wrote was that a smaller government apparatus and reduced public spending is not a centrist trait, in response to Tom's suggestion that the Republicans in the US are centre right. Smaller government is a hallmark of right-wing politics, not the centre. I made no comment about which is better: minimal public services and small government (with lower taxes) or expanded social services and an expensive, larger government apparatus.

I do find it odd, however, that you equate social services with an inability to think for oneself.

Christianity is one broad religion, with a core philosophy of belief in the existence of Jesus Christ, the material son of God, who will reappear on Earth one day to redeem true believers. There are hundreds of denominations of the religion. I was referring to them all under the overarching banner of Christianity (clearly, since Presidents of the USA have embraced different denominations).

The USA could implement true universal healthcare if the political will to do so existed. Dozens of countries with large populations, some more densely populated than the US and others less so, successfully run universal healthcare schemes. Operating these through one or more insurance companies is not the way to do it; that's a profit-taking public-private partnership which is not fully funded by taxpayers, as any universal scheme should be. The very fact that this was Obama's solution just underscores the orientation of the Democrats as a right-of-centre party by most standards around the world, with the Republicans—especially under Trump—much further to the right

That seems just as simplistic as claiming that the 50% loss of production by wind turbines was the cause. Let my point out that the production increase by wind was heavily pushed by state regulation.

Life is a bit more complex than your post seems to imply.

Law of unintended consequences hits Trump's bosom pal Kim.
Quote:
Former US President Donald Trump named North Korea a state sponsor of terrorism in 2017, reopening the window to litigation against Pyongyang under a 1976 Act.

A US federal court has awarded $2.3 billion in damages to several crew members of the USS Pueblo and their surviving families, more than 50 years after North Korea seized the American naval vessel and took its crew hostage.

Re: Trump - post Presidency thread

A golden statue of Donald Trump with a golden head and Trump’s trademark suit jacket with a white shirt and red tie caused a stir at the annual US Conservative Political Action Conference gathering of conservatives this week with key conference themes MAGA and America first.

Turns out the statue was made in Mexico – a country the former president frequently demonized.

Now that is funny. It looks more like a troll attempt than people worshiping him. He does have troll feet, plus the wand. Well played to whoever sculpted that thing. LOL

The one and only time I have seen a golden statue of a political figure with my own eyes was in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan in honour" of the late Turkmenbashi, "leader of all Turkmen". A proper statue.

The GOP is a cult, and a joke at being one.
