Well, maybe if we were discussing this over on the science thread, it would be fascinating to analyze and discuss that in a greater level of detail. But I don't really see in what way it is more relevant for presidents than for anybody else.
I kind of have a thing for hooking into tenuous links for pedagogic reasons and this thread needed a distraction, it's hardly EF's finest hour (the world's shortest book - like The Wit and Wisdom of Margaret Thatcher).

Is there an actual science thread? What mighty discussions are going on there?

Not much discussion going on here TBH. Mostly just righteous wallowing in one's own confirmation bias and unwillingness to accept any other point of view or seek to understand others in good faith. This type of thread runs on seemingly forever, long after everything of value has been said. It's all that seems to be left on the EF these days.

There is. The value of the discussions varies, but when somebody brings something good up, discussions can get interesting.

I had a butcher's. It's mainly homework questions and New Age nonsense like:

...it is impossible to be perfect symmetrically, if we will be, then will get in the resonance which theoretically will make as immortals...

I'll keep an eye on it.

Re: Trump - post Presidency thread

Back to the topic, seems a number of so-called fair-minded GOP Senator jurors have already made their minds up about Trump's impeachment.
Quote:
Sens. Ted Cruz, from Texas, and Mike Lee from Utah, who were seen entering a room with the Trump legal defence team last night, were joined by Sens. Dan Sullivan, from Alaska, Mike Braun from Indiana, Todd Young also from Indiana, and Marsha Blackburn from Tennessee.
They claimed it was only fair as Senate leader Schumer had advised the prosecution but that excuse would only stand up if it was the Senate minority leader McConnell visiting the defence not six jurors.

As a reminder McConnel said the following after the riot "“This failed attempt to obstruct the Congress, this failed insurrection, only underscores how crucial the task before us is for our Republic,” in his floor speech.

Re: Trump - post Presidency thread

I am still holding out hope that McConnell and some of the traditional Republican senators are slow playing Trump on this one. If they plan a conscience vote there is no point showing their hand until vote time.

Realistically though, most of the GOP are a bunch of battered wives. They want to leave Trump and his mob, but cower in fear of what will happen to them. Bottom line..be judged by Trump (who could fade sooner than later if they want to) or be judged by history (which will never fade).

Wanna see some faux outrage? One of Trump‘s attorneys, Mr van der Veen, a former personal injury attorney is really engaging in a fine performance.

Unfortunately though, last night good ole Mitch passed around a message that he‘d vote to acquit.

He literally hasn't read (or understood) the 5th amendment with his claims about "due process" or he doesn't understand what impeachment is. Anyway, pretty shocking for someone claiming to be a lawyer.

nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law

Exactly. Mitch's words may seem honourable, but his actions are spineless and unprincipled.

Here's an article about Obama, dated November 2020, including information about some of his sources of income.

All the polls show a majority of Americans believe Trump should be found guilty so if the GOP let him go then that puts the D's in a superior position with the voters.
