Trump - post Presidency thread

Here we can continue to gather all the stuff about him, both funny and bad since the other threads got closed.

He's quit the Screen Actors Guild before they could discipline him.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-55943998

Doesn't look like he's going to testify at his impeachment trial.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-55586677

I also found this article, comparing Trump to Senator McCarthy quite interesting.

https://edition.cnn.com/2021/02/03/o...tye/index.html
I saw (and read) that article as well, yesterday. Hopefully he will fade into oblivion as McCarthy did. Some interesting similarities.

Last night, I was having trouble finding something to watch on Netflix and ended up watching an episode of "Dirty Money" titled "Confidence Man" that is about Trump and details the ways he basically rose to fame by ripping off banks and contractors, etc. -- taking out huge loans to finance his lavish lifestyle and generate the illusion that he's "ultra rich" -- all on borrowed money that he then refused to pay back.

It also talked about an incident when Trump once tried to sue a journalist for having referred to Trump as a millionaire rather than a billionaire, in an article. So then it went to court, and Trump had to provide his tax returns, etc., and lost the case because in fact, he was NOT a billionaire -- not even close.

It also went into the ways Trump used his "Trump University" scheme to lure people into these seminars that were first advertised as being free and then once the people got there, they were advised to take out loans from their banks in order to pay the $35,000 fee for the seminar course. Some of them did, believing that they were going to get a legitimate course or degree, and then slowly these people just became used by the Trump organization to help try to make Trump more money. A recruiting scheme, essentially -- for people to pay Trump to help him make more money, all under the guise that they were being "schooled."

What I find so fascinating about Trump isn't even Trump himself but how soo many people can fall for a con artist and be so completely oblivious to the fact that it's just all "smoke and mirrors."

Must you? Really? I had hoped we could move on and just forget about him.

Well if we want to learn from mistakes of the past, ignoring/forgetting them and acting like they never happened ain't gonna get us there.

To some people he was so surreal and self-contradictory that they refused to believe who he was/is and created some idolized images of him. Interesting thing that he wasn't from established political circles, but its debatable how much good actually came out of that. Good that he didn't have so much correctness filter in front of his mouth thanx to also twitter, so we got a better view on him.

Overall, important lesson how ed up assholish people are among us, sometimes at the very top. And how many will throw moral principles out of the window just if they see some benefit for them.

Don't expect too much from such folks in power, take care of yourself and your close ones by yourself if you can (I would like to think Suisse is vastly better in this, but then I don't follow local politics).

Let's not ignore the fact that some people identified with him, with his style and his views precisely because they had a clear view of him. They didn't have to create any distorted image in their head because they liked what they saw.

Re: Trump - post Presidency thread

Coming to a viewing outlet near you - maybe.

"The Four Seasons Total Landscaping press conference, a defining moment in last year's US election, is being made into a documentary.

The small Philadelphia business, not the hotel as first tweeted by then President Donald Trump, hosted his lawyer Rudy Giuliani on 8 November.

Mr Giuliani made unfounded electoral fraud claims, just as US media began calling the election for Joe Biden.

The film will explain how the business ended up hosting the event.

Many people have speculated that the location was booked mistakenly."

Re: Trump - post Presidency thread

Can Twitter unblock Trump just so we can see him throwing his toys out of the pram during the impeachment trial?

Apparently his legal team are a bit aimless.

This. I would say that people did not idolize him but appreciated his direct ways..for them maybe all top politicians are assholish, but only some are open books about it...pardon, tweets. Maybe that's what 70mil yanks care for.

I do. Trump should be held accountable as any president who breaks the law.

That’s a good point, and have no idea why really I care. I went to a girls only school in England with an embroidery of the Magna Carta tapestry on our history class walls. Maybe medieval stuff interests me.

But think it could be the next movie blockbuster? That sounds good - who cares about Americans that don’t support democracy / voted for Trump? - agree totally

Trump's presidency has been comedic gold since the day he decided to run for the dang office... I simply couldn't handle it, because it was far too painful to see a person who embodies the things I hate the most in the head office of my country.

Since he walked out of the White House for the last time, it is just pure schadenfreude for me and I am enjoying every bit of it...

Loved watching the opening speech of his lawyer yesterday - like a bad preacher giving his first sermon or a poor attempt at a filibuster...

I tried to watch some of that yesterday when I noticed it was being live-streamed in the news, and I couldn't get through more than one minute of it.

But it's interesting how they're trying to claim that the impeachment trial is unconstitutional because Trump is no long in office. So according to their argument, I guess they believe that a "lame duck president" should be able to do whatever he pleases without ever having to worry about being held accountable for it.
