Rush Limbaugh death reported

Limbaugh’s death was just reported. Age 70, lung cancer. Definitely a force in media.

0. Irregardless of any of his personality traits, my condolences go to all his family, friends and others affected. RIP

1. I've heard this name, heard some of satirical sketches made around his outrageous and blatantly ignorant tirades, but I never actually consciously listened to the man himself. My hopes are, that we won't see his place taken by someone even more unhinged and antisocial.

Soooo... regardful, then?

It took seven posts for "RIP" to make an appearance. Must be some sort of EF death-thread record.

Re: Rush Limbaugh death reported

RIP. Rest in Piss. I would pee on his grave.

I did however get many hours of enjoyment listening to him back in the day when I only had an AM radio in my vehicle. I always assumed that he was just an ass to attract listeners. After 15 years, the shtick got tiresome though. I won't miss the asshat and don't give a sh!t about his family or friends.

Spatula City.

Re: Rush Limbaugh death reported

I had to google this guy. I'm surprised at some reactions.... Some here would describe him as a champion and a pillar of free speech etc etc etc etc. Why the hate?

Which is ironic, considering how forums function.

Some of us heard of him for the first time so I'm guessing his impact wasn't that big after all.... He probably was "somebody" in certain circles.

That's thanks to the extreme polarisation and the consequent creation of echo chambers, created partly by Limbaugh himself.
You should count yourself lucky that you have only heard of him, whether for the first time or not.

I guess it should be a nightmare to listen to a relative you love spew the words said by this guy

Re: Rush Limbaugh death reported

Rush had a radio segment where he would read off the names of gay people who died of AIDS and celebrate it by playing music/bells. He was a true piece of human crap and his passing is the only passing I have ever actually cheered for in the same way he did for those poor AIDS patients.

Trump awarding him the Medal of Freedom is one of the lowest points of many low points in his presidency.

No matter what he has done or said, should not matter anymore. He is gone and no need for postmortem profanity. Agreed?

It's quite mature to tell death ends issues but never underestimate US craziness. Things are a bit different on the other side of the ocean. I wouldn't be surprised if someone pays for a Rush Limbaugh Elementary School, Rush Limbaugh Community center or even an statue/bust somewhere. That's the level of craziness we're talking about, where death is not the end but only the start of a myth or a popular culture reference.

If you are not from the US you may not have heard of him, because he wasn't speaking to those outside. No, he was speaking to, and building, what has now become 'The Base'. His impact on the US political landscape was immense.

Limbaugh laid the groundwork all those years ago for the politics of hatred that has taken over our country today. His radio show - commentary served with a big ol' dollop of venom and tribalism - reached millions and influenced many millions more. His show gave voice to, and validated, the destructive forces we see today. His show let the genie out of the bottle. Without his show sowing those seeds there would have been no Tea Party, no Trumpism, no Qanon.

Heck, without his influence, we might even have stayed a somewhat civil society functioning in a more or less fact-based universe, able to disagree with a modicum of respect and engage one another somewhat constructively. Without his influence, bipartisanship might even still be a workable concept rather than a dirty word.

You can't see me, but I am standing and applauding this post.

It is a very sad fact to admit that the world would be a better place if someone was never born at all...
