Politics in the post-Covid world triumph of regionalism over central government

Just taking two countries as an example the UK & Spain but no doubt the same could be said about the Cantons
of Switzerland over the Swiss central government.

Namely in the 2 countries where government is devolved whether in Spain with it's Autonomous regional governments
or communities ( 17 in all plus 2 Autonomous cities ) or in the UK with the devolved governments of Scotland,
Wales and Northern Ireland.

The politicians and the health authorities that have been exercising and wielding 'real power' over the people
during the pandemic have been the Autonomous regions of Spain & the devolved governments of the UK.

No more are the citizens of these Autonomous communities and devolved governments looking to London
or Madrid, as to how well or badly the restrictions, infection rates & the vaccine campaign is playing out in their
area; as now they are truely beholden on their Autonomous communities and devolved governments & health authorities
to lay out exactly what they can or cannot do and how they conduct their business during the pandemic.

Nicola Sturgeon in Scotland has already won praise over the way she's handled and advised the people of
Scotland during the crisis compared to how Boris Johnson has handled it in London.

The question is having won this 'extra power' or more to the point this 'extra attention' from central government
will it go further following the pandemic ?

It's ALWAYS been the case in CH, nothing new at all.

If anything, the federal government has taken MORE control.

Not sure if it is a permanent increase of the autonomy of some regions, or skilled national-level politicians temporarily avoiding responsibility.

If someone else wants to own a big mess of unpredictable consequences, who am I to say NO?

Re: Politics in the post-Covid world triumph of regionalism over central government

I'd say that even the biggest fans of huge unions should have realized during covid that it's simply nonsense.
Where is the big solidarity amongst the EU countries when it comes to ordering/paying/sharing vaccine?
What the hell happened to Schengen?

When shit hits the fan it always goes back to smaller communities. It obviously automatically goes back to countries. And while in my lifetime Germany was always one country (okay, two until 1989) they even have differnt rules/laws for covid between "Länder" now. And for good reasons.
GB, I'd say, is already too big and the inhabitants (Scots, Irish, English, Welsh .... did I forget someone?) too different to follow the same rules. Switzerland has similar problems but I guess because it's so tiny and the inhabitants feel it's worth it and are willing to comporomise, it somehow works out so far.

These big unions (EU, GB, USA ... what ever) are "sunshine-time" ideas (and even then big parts of the population ain't happy, to put it mildly) but definitely not crisis-proof.
