Actually the first time mRNA was used on humans was in 2017.
The link says the treatment was being studied. What was the publically available mRNA that came out of this research?

So about Covid passports...

Re: Controversy surrounding the introduction of Covid Passports

German health ministry is discussing whether suggesting to Parliament (for possible implementation into law) that there should be a link between lockdowns and ICU patient count, rather than # of + tests. My OH reminded me that in April of 2020 I wondered aloud why + tests should govern lockdowns. I guess that back then the powers that be thought we could stop the pandemic by stamping out community transmission. Now they seem to be giving up on that idea.

There's 2-3 weeks between infection and hospital admission (at least: last year). At that time the correlation between +tests and later hospital admissions was pretty linear but hospital admissions occur with some 2 weeks delay. Thus relying on the # of + tests allowed for quicker reaction.

@amogles
That's the backstage entrance.

I'm no epidemiologist, but ICU admissions? What do they tell you, except that it's way to late for lockdowns to be effective. Why not hospital admissions (of which an unknown portion move on to ICU)?

Warning, warning, warning - don't let your Covid vaccine certs or passport expire !!

To all those who have had their 2 jabs this year and received your Covid vaccination certificates
or passports. That the likelihood now is that all these Covid vaccination certificates or passports
will come to an end - with a 5 to 6 month expiry date unless you get the booster vaccine
jab within a specified timeframe.

Bit dramatic for all of us resident here who have 12 months validity. But thanks for the info.

Don't panic!

74% and 67% after 5/6 months are still very high protection levels.

Vaccine developers design studies to demonstrate a rate of efficacy of at least 50%, vaccines can be approved at this low level which will likely also decline in time.

The thing that surprised me was the efficacy of the Pfizer jab declined a lot during the first 3 months to almost
reach a par with the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine which in comparison declined slowly.

AZ was tested in UK, South Africa & India which all had variants, hardly surprising others fared better in first tests but not much difference in the real world.

Are you sure about that? What I've seen mentioned is the load on hospitals, without further specification like ICU load. See for instance Die Zeit. I don't follow Germany that closely though.

Gene therapy is a therapy that alters the human genome. mRNA vaccines don't do that.
Wrong . Gene therapy modifies any genome .

Otherwise it would be called human genome therapy

The other way around: Covid vaccine belongs in the common vaccine booklet. I never understood why it was not done like that.
