Your link is to something that occurred fifty years ago. | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | I never wrote that.
I do not believe that such a law amendment would be allowed to be passed today.
If you don't think that much has changed in Europe, or indeed the world in fifty years then it may be prudent to remember that only twenty years before that, Stalin was still in power in the Soviet Union and only a few years before that, the Germans had their concentration camps... | | | | | I never said you wrote "that" - I just questioned your assertion that the UK monarchy no longer had any influence any more in relevant legistlation
Sorry, your time frame aside re Stalin and Nazi-Germany is even more questionable

You should say start from scratch. But I politely decline. |

The BBC has devoted the whole evening across both channels to programmes about the Duke of Edinburgh as have the other major UK channels.

Just found this hilarious quote:
"If I were reincarnated I would wish to be returned to Earth as a killer virus to lower human population levels." - Prince Philip

I listened to a very interesting Graun pod a while back which made it very clear it does continue.

The tribute and gun salute are quite touching.
Quite lovely how the country and commonwealth come together to honour their prince.
May he rest in peace.

Not really sure at all what your point was here. | | | | | My apologies, if reluctant release of 50 YO information regarding tax fiddling is proof* that this well established practice is absolutely unthinkable in today’s “transparent” times to your reasoning, I can only commend your trust in mankind’s good intentions and suggest we have a group hug.
My questioning your mention of Stalin and Nazi Germany as a time scale reference (20 years/50 years) was just that. I fail to see how you can consider any comparison of historically acknowledged genocide with disputable financial favouritism a valid argument. For what? *Perhaps post #49/baboon illustrates the point a bit… |

Are you suggesting that the Queen still gets laws changed today to suit her own purposes, and this is somehow covered up?

| | Re: Duke of Edinburgh has died
Within six hours of Prince Philip’s death being announced the BBC had received so many complaints about its wall-to-wall coverage of the news that it opened a dedicated complaints form on its website, as television viewers turned off and went elsewhere.
The BBC curtailed dozens of broadcasts on Friday, taking the nation’s most popular television and radio channels off air and reducing dozens of other broadcasts on stations across the country, to provide uninterrupted coverage of tributes to the Queen’s husband.
Same for all the other TV Channel- it was just oo much- hours upon hours. We swtiched off after a while until the 10pm news- and it was the same all over. When we got to Newsnight- hoping we would get 'other news' - Kirsty was dressed all in black and off we went again. At that point- we switched off and gave up.
With due respect - it was all too much. RIP HRH

The BBC had the same programmes showing simultaneously on both BBC1 and BBC2 it was totally ridiculous.
I get that he was a very important figure in the UK and he deserved the tributes but it didn’t need to be 12 hours of it.

The BBC have to be ready at a moments notice all the work I did was on 16mm film.
