no further comment necessary https://fb.watch/5i3fPjDquK/
[Yes, further comment necessary, as per posting guidelines. It's a video on Facebook apparently showing some demonstrators using the Roman Salute - Ace1].

Many further comments required, I'm not just going to open a link to something without having some idea what's inside.

Here's one article I found to explain the video. Facism is on the rise in Italy, as seen in the video and as reported. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...-a8887626.html
People can be so stupid.

My ad blocker prevents me from opening.
But stupid is not the word I would use, it is much much worse than that.

From the Independent article: "On Wednesday 24 April, some 30 people held a banner reading “Honour to Benito Mussolini” while performing fascist salutes in Milan."
Let us run for the hills.

Let us run for the hills. | | | | | Considering the Lombardian treatmet Mussolini got, it takes some courage to do that in Milano.

Also, it was a meeting to commemorate the murder on 29 April 1975 by far left extremists of a young student who had written some articles critical of rhe Red Brigades: https://www.italy24news.com/News/32664.html

Berlusconi had more than a bit of a fascist leader in his ways to run the country... its nothing new or rising. Its a certain bottom line of idiots. Not just in Italy but pretty much anywhere. If anything is the "new right" fortunately currently on the decline in most parts of Europe (after a decade or so of successes).

Are today's parties just thugs and hooligans or the start of something more sinister?

The best way to deal with fascists is to mock them. Same with any extremist! Then, when they come for you, just run Language warning

Sadly it's hardly any news, there was a constant rise of fascism during the last 10 years or so, which seems to decelerate. There has been a perfect recipe for its rise, European debt crisis, refugee crisis, covid crisis, austerity measures, high unemployment rates.
Far-right politicians show up and promise security, jobs, blame the refugees. Many people who have absolutely no idea what far-right beliefs are about, will vote and support them, believing that a change will come. Fortunately, these groups of people seem to be a minority.

We've seen in the US that the Proud Boys white supremacy group was indeed funded by minorities--specifically, the Chinese diaspora--thinking they were fighting communism.

st2lemans - groans again. Does that mean Tom, that you support fascisim and are happy that it raises it's ugly head again? | | | | | I think the groans were because you started with a worrying title, then posted a link without giving any idea of what it is. That's not helpful and doesn't allow people to decide if they want to see the content or not. But I wouldn't worry too much about Tom's groans, he sprinkles them liberally but also gives a lot of thanks.
