And not far, in Italy- sends shivers down my spine

no further comment necessary

[Yes, further comment necessary, as per posting guidelines. It's a video on Facebook apparently showing some demonstrators using the Roman Salute - Ace1].

Many further comments required, I'm not just going to open a link to something without having some idea what's inside.

Here's one article I found to explain the video. Facism is on the rise in Italy, as seen in the video and as reported.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...-a8887626.html

People can be so stupid.

My ad blocker prevents me from opening.

But stupid is not the word I would use, it is much much worse than that.

I believe it. It's not the best article to use due to its annoying ads but I couldn't find anything else.

The article reported that many hooligans took part in the demonstration. There seems to be a correlation.... stupidity, boredom and the need to be acknowledged (my words).

Football stadiums need to be opened to the public ASAP! It's better when that energy is focused on the other guys with a slightly different t-shirt.

From the Independent article: "On Wednesday 24 April, some 30 people held a banner reading “Honour to Benito Mussolini” while performing fascist salutes in Milan."

Let us run for the hills.

I fail to see it as a problem to be concerned about.

Also, it was a meeting to commemorate the murder on 29 April 1975 by far left extremists of a young student who had written some articles critical of rhe Red Brigades:

I would disagree with that. Fascism was never gone in Italy. Berlusconi had more than a bit of a fascist leader in his ways to run the country... its nothing new or rising. Its a certain bottom line of idiots. Not just in Italy but pretty much anywhere. If anything is the "new right" fortunately currently on the decline in most parts of Europe (after a decade or so of successes).

The best way to deal with fascists is to mock them. Same with any extremist! Then, when they come for you, just run

I think the groans were because you started with a worrying title, then posted a link without giving any idea of what it is. That's not helpful and doesn't allow people to decide if they want to see the content or not. But I wouldn't worry too much about Tom's groans, he sprinkles them liberally but also gives a lot of thanks.

What are you on about? It's been there for decades. The AfD has even become "stubenrein" (housetrained) and part of the German Bundestag

Couldn't watch your mysterious link, it's facebookers only and I'm not part of that crowd.

Re: And not far, in Italy- sends shivers down my spine

nothing new, in italy there's always been successors to the fascist party including youth clubs and they've always had their meetings.

I would not lose your sleep over this. There is an equal or bigger amount of militant communists and anarchists (autonomous centres etc.) in italy.

A bit too polarized but balanced.

That exact sentence could as well have come from one of them

Makes sense seeing as it comes from "Si vis pacem, para bellum"
"If you want peace, prepare for war"

I think you give Uncle Groove too much credit there, thats a bit of a stretch from your quote to his statement.

Btw: That quote reminds me to buy that TW Rome1 Remaster.
