Well, lets see if the EU are finally kicked into action. A flight from one EU capital to another is highjacked by a third state.

My bet is they will do nothing...
Belarus is in deep trouble as Von der Leyen will teach them a lesson. Just ask Erdogan.

Entirely Ursula's doing.

Beyond any doubt.

And now the world is trembling in fear as she scans the horizon for her next victim.

Re: Ryanair plane forced to abort descent and forced to land in Weissrussland

Plane aborted descent path and continued on cruse altitude and speed just 30km prior border .

Entire flight over the country is about 230km and with 300m/s they would be about 14 minutes .

Interception in such short time is possible however highly unlikely as information about the bomb would have to be delivered to military exactly when plane entered country airspace and would live no room for error for military and have pilot take off in 5min - even so they have close base right on the flight path - such fast paced information flow is not realistic.

descend of civilian airplane is in flight plan you all landing start approach about half-way over Belarus - airplane that was intercepted did not start descend for some reason and headed at maximum speed forwards based on flight data

Re: Ryanair plane forced to abort descent and forced to land in Weissrussland

Congrats to the RyanAir pilot that almost made it out safely:

Unfortunately their aborted landing, thanks to some "info" or some rumours, deciding to cruise fast toward Lithuania, was not enough.

Now we just have to wait what joke will the Bruxelles regime fish out to punish Lukashenko. Maybe a NorthStream 3, passing through Belarus, devasting the nest of 3 or even 4 rare Belarus pigeons. Maybe they will ask help from the atlantic cowboys, as usual.

Why did he choose a route which went through their airspace in the first place?

Re: Ryanair plane forced to abort descent and forced to land in Weissrussland

sounds there was no interception mid-air even so military plane took off it was pilots decision to land in Minsk based on ground information.

was that 'there is bomb that will detonate when landing in Vilnius based on GPS coordinates" or " we have missing (fox one) missile fired - avoid airspace " is good as any other - fact is based on false information pilots landed in Minsk - and young man and his gf is missing

There is no "choice" of the route - these are well defined flight plans and approved by all airspace controllers before plane takes off. Plan can be altered mid-air based on few things but pilot is not at liberty to "set his own fly plan".

and think - flight over Ukraine that was shot down by surface-to-air missile mainly due to mistake of milita on the ground and pilot that altered his mid-air plan trying to avoid danger zone and was wrong-identified as not-on-route likely military plane .

Here's the flight path, courtesy flightradar24.com.

The plane changed course at around 9:45 UTC, see the playback feature. As for the route, see the middle option underneath the UTC time. Altering the route may well be a simple thing given how little it takes this flight to avoid Belarus.

How could he possibly expect this?!

It's rather a question why european carriers flying still through the airspace. I saw Air Baltic is avoiding for example, but others like Ryanair, Swiss don't seem to care

well this normally doesn't happen, so I'd excuse him for not thinking about it.

Re: Ryanair plane forced to abort descent and forced to land in Weissrussland

There is a Telegram channel that was the most popular one among protesters (about 2 millions of subs by then) and less than a year this guy was the head editor of it.
The channel was helping protesters, and in general it was very heavy on the regime.
Authors of this channel are now wanted in Belarus as "terrorists".
This guy has all reasons to believe that he will be killed either in a legal way (the death penalty is allowed in Belarus) or illegal (it also happens, healthy political prisoners suddenly die from a heart attack, it has happened just a few days ago).

it shows also that course change at 9.47 (so likley Capitan confirmed with ground control to fly to alternative airport of his route couple minutes earlier) made it's turn at 39000 altitude with closed loop - should it be 1min later - that would put them into Lithuania airspace on exit from the manoeuvre and I do not think it is normal as it took 2min for 180c change - 18000m for 180degree change at that speed - puting them at 13 degree angle and very narrow flight envelop.

Re: Ryanair plane forced to abort descent and forced to land in Weissrussland

Plane was registered in Poland - so it be up to them to deal with the issue.

Easy first step is to stop all flight paths for all airlines that have Belarus airspace in it's flight plan in/outbound to PL airspace - that would clear Belarusian sky significantly - reducing risks and same time money into the pocket of the regime.

Other steps likely to follow

Re: Ryanair plane forced to abort descent and forced to land in Weissrussland

Well, it did work with Morales - he had no other option but to land in Vienna .

There is norden corridor to russia - and souther over UA/Kiev and bound for Moscow normally. No issues . Villnus would have only NE/NW approaches which may be some issues on N winds .

They have grounded the Morales’ plane successfully but didn’t capture the guy they were looking for, so the whole attempt was not a success. Lukashenko landed the plane and arrested the man.
