| | British PM flies 200 miles on a airliner to take part in Climate Change Summit
BoJo the clown took an A320 passenger airliner on his London to Cornwall G7 trip. Purpose of the travel?
Climate change summit. I see he is doing his part

Train from London to Cornwall is a nightmare I believe..... many cars probably more polluting than a plane | The following 2 users would like to thank Island Monkey for this useful post: | | This user groans at Island Monkey for this post: | |

And yeah, it's just further proof that BoJo is not tuned in to the world around him. Like many Tories, he is an out of touch toff who has lived a life or privilege.

ETA for clarity, that is not me supporting Boris, nor the tories, but rather bringing some balance. There are very few UK politicians I have any time for and I wish Labour were able to offer a more credible opposition.
Flying to a climate change summit in your own country is completely tone deaf. Without defending him, I can see why though. London to St. Ives is a nightmare on the roads and I don‘t believe it‘s much better by train.

From a practical point of view, he is the PM, presumably his time is important and security arrangements etc. could mean that flying might make sense in spite of the optics.

In terms of hypocrisy though, I think we're still a long way off from the levels we see at the WEF with all those private planes parked wing to wing at Kloten and the constant stream of helicopters ferrying people to Davos.

People like Johnson, Gove, Reese-Mogg, Hancock, Sunak etc. They are (in my view, of course) to varying degrees insufferable and reprehensible characters and massively out of touch with the world around them.
While the Tories are currently and sadly the best of the UK's miserable political situation, I sincerely look forward to the time that Labour or another credible political party that are not full of blue-blooded elite psychopaths can provide some serious competition and dethrone them.

Well I hope he paid his APT, the tax introduced to mitigate the costs of the CO2 produced by his flight.
Depending on the version of the A320 the burn is certainly not significant, compared to what a train or road transport would produce for a similar journey.

Climate change summit. I see he is doing his part | | | | | The others flew a longer distance, some of them even with private jets.
Doesn't that make him a role model?

Climate change summit. I see he is doing his part | | | | | What a douche.
He's PM yet he can't even be arsed to use a private jet. That man has zero class-awareness let alone style.

Worth noting that Boris is part Swiss. His paternal grandfather has a Turkish father (Boris's surname patrilineally is Osman) and an English / Swiss mother (Winifred Brun).
Maybe he should come over here and join the CVP/SVP/FDP when he has retired |

If he'd bicycle, then he'd also lose some weight. What a slob that guy is.
