French warn of radiological threat from Chinese nuclear plant

Probably this is non-news, and we will hear no more of it.

But French experts have warned of an increased threat level from a Chinese nuclear plant.

Re: French warn of radiological threat from Chinese nuclear plant

If I understood well, the issue is that there is the risk of a leak . Deficient maintenance, risky operation protocols, waste storage, it can be anything.

The other option is the leak already happened. So, which neighbor can detect it? Japan, India, South Korea, Australia? I'd worry that Japan would hide the data for a while to avoid hurting the Olympics. I want to believe SK, AU, and IN would have no reason to delay the truth.

Does that mean the corona virus has failed?

Sorry, couldn't help myself

Obviously not - you build it yourself.

Likely with Chinese-made components since nothing else is available...

How are you going to calibrate this home-made geiger counter and should your neighbours have cause to be worried?

Very very easy: almost 1000 buildings (ancient watchmaker workshops) are polluted in radium in Switzerland. A third in Neuchâtel, other third in Bern, and the rest in Solothurn and Jura. Only in 2014 workers found during the construction of a highway 120 kilos of radium. So, take the homemade Geiger counter when visiting these regions =) https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/watchma...dium-/44070300

Could be pre-calibrated. Otherwise, must be some standard established by now for Alaska salmon and Japanese cars.

Re: French warn of radiological threat from Chinese nuclear plant

Details here (in French): https://www.lefigaro.fr/flash-eco/ep...ishan-20210614

The leak is within the primary circuit. So, there should be no connection with radiation testing outside the plant. Unless the whole circuit design is faulty.

Speaking of leaks, the French reached out to the American government (U.S. Department of Energy). The usual CIA whore, CNN, reported this. Now, that is a leak that will make the world less secure as a U.S. ally see its confidential information sharing abused for short-term political advantage.

These two statements do not necessarily follow.
Yes, it can be "non-news" but, because of huge political and commercial interests involved, we will have to endure hearing a lot more about it.
The USA has set it self a goal as a dominant supplier in nuclear, soon to be presented as GREEN, energy technologies. No opportunity to undermine Chinese, French (and of course Russian) contributions in this field can be missed.

CNN are not the source of the "leak", they're just a media company who reported it, and no idea why you bring the CIA into it.

Re: French warn of radiological threat from Chinese nuclear plant

The earlier report said that the Chinese authorities have raised the safety limits for the area surrounding the plant .

This might suggest that there has been a small leak or that they are anticipating there will be a small leak

Real interpretation is it's OK to poison things, make a mess and loss innocent citizens in the name of progress.

Of course CNN is not the source. They are the megaphone. Who pretended otherwise?

The Department of Energy does not have a mandate to pursue nuclear investigation and analysis in non-allied countries. The CIA does, for both civilian and military atom under the assumption that one can lead to the other. And even then, for "allies"... the French should know: http://www.foia.cia.gov/sites/defaul..._french_nu.pdf
