January 6 US Capitol Insurrection

First sentence

A Trump supporter who spent 10 minutes inside the US Capitol during the January 6 insurrection was sentenced to probation Wednesday and a $500 fine.
Anna Morgan-Lloyd, 49, from rural Indiana, had pleaded guilty to a single misdemeanor for trespassing inside the Capitol as part of the crowd on January 6.
Morgan-Lloyd avoided jail time because she didn't participate in the violence and condemned those who did.

Re: January 6 US Capitol Insurrection

A member of the Oath Keepers right wing group pleaded guilty on Wednesday to charges of one count each of conspiracy and obstruction of an official proceeding stemming from the riot at the Capitol, making him the first defendant in federal prosecutors' biggest case since Jan. 6 to enter a plea agreement.

The 54-year-old Florida resident said during the hearing that he had agreed to cooperate with prosecutors and potentially testify during a later trial or before a grand jury.
Judge Amit Mehta advised Young during the hearing that the agreement could mean that he ends up receiving a sentence of up to 6.5 years in prison.

Heating up
Quote:
House Democrats will soon establish a special congressional committee to investigate the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced Thursday.

“It is imperative that we seek the truth for what happened,” she told reporters in the Capitol.

The move, coming almost six months after the deadly riot, indicates that Democrats have no intention of letting Republicans stymie a comprehensive examination of the violence and what led up to it.

Methinks the big question should be: "Was this just a low IQ rabble-rousing fling, or a planned attack using the low IQ rabble?"

Trump should be impeached and found guilty to avoid any possibility of running for office again.

Given 48% of the electorate voted for Trump - and of that a certain percentage think he didn't lose, there is every chance of a swing back in the populist direction in 2024.

Several of the defense lawyers are claiming the second; "their stupid clients were led to this by manipulators".

Re: January 6 US Capitol Insurrection

The NY Supreme Court cited the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol in the Giuliani license suspension, writing that his false statements are “corrosive” to the public’s trust in elections.

It said Giuliani’s misconduct “directly inflamed tensions that bubbled over into the events of January 6, 2021 in this nation’s Capitol.” The court contended that it does not have to illustrate a direct connection between the two to “understand that the falsehoods themselves cause harm," concluding that the insurrection showed the negative influence false statements can have on public trust in elections.

The Department of Justice charged its first Capitol rioter suspected of attacking the media on Jan. 6.

Shane Jason Woods is being accused of attacking a Capitol police officer and a member of the media, a criminal complaint released Thursday showed.

He is facing eight federal charges, including assault in special maritime and territorial jurisdiction, assault on a law enforcement officer and disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds.

He was impeached twice.

He can't be impeached again unless he is re-elected.

Re: January 6 US Capitol Insurrection

A father and son duo who lead a Florida church has been arrested in connection with the Jan. 6 Capitol riot after a member of their congregation, who also faces charges from the mob attack, helped link authorities to the men.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia announced Thursday that James “Jim” Varnell Cusick Jr., and his son, Casey Cusick, had both been charged.

Re: January 6 US Capitol Insurrection

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) on Thursday dismissed a warning from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) to his members not to accept a seat on a special House committee that will probe the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

“Who gives a s---?” Kinzinger asked reporters Thursday morning when he was questioned about McCarthy's reported threat to members of his caucus that they could be stripped of their committee assignments for accepting a spot on the body.

Edit: Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has named Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) to serve on the select committee investigating the attack on the Capitol by a mob of pro-Trump supporters.

Re: January 6 US Capitol Insurrection

The Justice Department is still searching for around 300 suspects more than six months after the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. The search is on for these hundreds of rioters even after the Justice Department has already arrested more than 500 people,
