It's vitally important that posters have different views, it makes for a more interesting conversation.
There are views and then there's trolling. I personally think some of the current mods encourage trolling and discourage those who would like to engage in rational conversations by thanking trolls and adding their own support to those trolling posts.

Yes. Sometimes. Not always. Sometimes divergent views are just a wind up.

No it doesn't. It just means that those who's views you oppose write a sarcastic comment, get a reply, get their knickers in a twist and resort to abusive and inflammatory remarks.

It's a pretty poor show that I flagged up a post last week and none of the mods could be bothered to respond (and it's not through lack of time judging by the amount of nonsensical posting they've been doing).

If the current mod team believe they are moderating impartially then they really need to have a good long look at themselves in the mirror.

Give literally one example of a moderation action taken on someone you agree by the new team with that's unfair.

I know them pretty well, thanks. And what I do know is that they're not too interested in posts which look like they come from a five-year-old. At the very least stop putting a space before a comma (or any punctuation mark); this is the English forum, after all.

There's nothing shocking about the thread; it's the standard stuff you can see all over the internet. The jokes are fine (I'm as guilty as anyone), so stuff it with the other jokes.
I thought speakeron's comments regarding posting styles and offering advice on how to improve were spot-on.

Is the discussion actually a joke to you?

The subject of trans-gender athletes has been in the news a lot recently because of the Olympics in Japan.

I think it's an interesting one and any decisions made by Sport governing bodies are going to effect sport, especially womens' sport for the next few years.
Sure it's not much of a 'problem' now but that may change.

Some of the comments have been cringe-worthy, as others have pointed out, such as "women lack confidence in sport" or "give trans-women a taste of their own medicine".

Agreed - there's nothing shocking in this thread but I'm not sure it should be in the joke section and it is certainly not a laughing matter to those actually involved.
This. Actually all of it.

I wouldn't necessarily close this thread, but I'd certainly take it off the front page (and probably move it to jokes/funnies). It's not a good look unless you're planning to drive engagement from postmodernist wingnuts. (Is there any other kind?)

I sometimes recommend EF threads to people (like the interesting vaccine side-effects one which I showed to someone the other day). I'll be more reluctant to do that if the front page gets filled up with too many obviously trolling threads.
I would agree with you, I just checked and I wouldn't say " International affairs\politics" is the right place for this thread.

The thread started on a Friday, with a joke-cartoon. While female athletes probably struggle with their special competition, I don't see it as a thing the general public should get all uptight about. It's a simple and logic outcome of something that was agreed on being okay/up to date/woke?

So yes, move the thread. To off-topic\sports?

Cue Caytlin Jenner and her winning the Woman of The Year Award half a decade ago.

Turns out men are even better at being a woman.
She also pretended to be a man in the '70s so she could compete against men and win olympic gold!

And somehow father a few sprog despite being a woman.

No, it's about showing respect for the forum and for others. If we have to decipher your words due to lack of punctuation, spacing and other distractors, it dimishes the significance of what you're trying to say.

It started off as a troll and became a joke. The trans stuff occupied a small part in the middle and can be summed up as, "it's up to the sporting authorities what their rules are". There's not a lot more we can say about that.

I never said or even implied that (you obviously inferred[1] it, though). And this is an example of why this is a troll thread.

[1] Excellent example of the difference between implied and inferred.

I certainly wouldn't list everything as failing.

olygirl, thx a lot for your input , I dont agree at all with what you've said , I have a total respect for your way of analysis and this is why we can have something like a debate here . Something adults used to like doing and now it's almost gone

The thing is , even if I do some good self-censorship I am too afraid to type what I think because I never know who might get offended...
Regularly I see how people prefer to just obey a certain idea and hate being challenged , look at a problem from different angles, which brings us to some old times, where 1."you must worship God.." 2."oh you said that, that means you hate God you are evil " end of discussion. We're at this point right now. ) and in my case , with my hate base here and Susie Q coming back tomorrow , I'm in danger

1. I can understand people trusting the government and how they are doing everything to fix the covid crisis so things can go back to normal . My respect to that and I'm trying to learn more from people who can believe this, so I can improve and finally reach that level .
In the meantime, the problem comes when that same government tell you , over and over, how "there's no back to how it was before" ...and they repeat how we are going to something that's called "new normal" .
It is hard to digest, how they've created "special scientific teams" and they vote things overnight .. lockdowns, masks, pcr testing, based on almost nothing and the rest of the scientific community gets shunned, banned completely ignored . Does this sound like a democracy ? no .

What the government tells us is how the 'new normal' will be accepting a new way of life which will be very similar if not the same as in China. Year ago this was just "so ridiculous" to say ..But , in Beijing people cant move around the city at all without the QR code. Everyone is obliged to have a smartphone and you receive in the morning green or red light telling you where you can go (geographically) . Same thing is just about to be implemented in australia, Europe..etc.

Concerning the unlawful enforcement (which scares me the most) as an example I'll give the UK gov. when they made attempts to enforce mask-wearing on public transport, despite the fact that there was no such law that required UK citizens to do so. Neither Coronavirus Act 2020 or the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) regulations 2020 stated that the police had the capacity to compel travellers to wear a mask on public transport.
Anyhow , more than 3000 security and police officers, were deployed in the UK in order to ensure that the public complied. This means that the Government used enforcement methods, without any legal basis.

What does this mean? Means , how the government can proclaim "national health/terrorist/asterioid crisis" then vote and impose anything they want .
Did we see real political debates , confrontations about anything ? not really . Everything they voted they did it at 3am for the obvious reasons .

We live in a society where, the police sent a drone to scare a 75y old woman who walked on the beach near a lone outback village (but it was a lockdown) and two girls who sat on a bench in London to eat a sandwich, they had the right to take of their masks and eat the sandwich but the police came around and gave them a 100£ fine anyhow because they had each a bottle of water. And that's considered a picnic. They had no right to picnic .

So, when you see imposing insane rules, demonstration of foce, humiliation , people being obsessed becaose someone's nose is poking out of the dirty cloth on their mouth ... total disrespect of our liberties , rights .
I wonder what happened to us , it seems how we thought we evolved but actually we'd accept a sharia law in no time . The worse: if you question any of this you're considered as a heretic (bad citizen) when in fact, we should be asking questions, confronting them with the lies they've said , shake their cage.

Remember how everyone was having an opinion and being philosophical about islam , burka, niqab ..How we were horrified they could live in a society where you have to cover your hair, or more but we took it to a whole another level... Recently Fauci said how TWO masks are even better than one and even wearing goggles all that in order to "keep safe" from a virus with 99% survival rate . Great.

I respect that other people have different opinions on this, but personally I think it is something that people should get uptight about because it has the potential to destroy women's sports*
As I said In my previous post, I think it’s a disgrace to all those who have trained so hard to become the best women in the world at what they do.

Why is it a disgrace to the born-woman if they are defeated by a born-man and everybody knows it? If anything the born-male should have the insight that they don't belong into the group their competing in. But them and the sports-rulemakers apparently think differently - so who am I to interfere?!

Getting uptight isn't even a productive starting position to deal with problems that actually concern you

You're not in any danger and I wouldn't say you have a "hate base" here.

Just as in real life, some people on EF will agree with you and some won't. Some will understand what you're trying to say, and some won't.

Apparently some are quite disturbed by your habit of putting a space before a comma when you type. I never even noticed it until it was pointed out! But now that I see it, it does disturb me a little bit...

That’s like saying people who use illegal steroids in sports should have the insight that they don't belong into the group their competing in.
It kind of defeats the whole purpose of cheating

Yeah, that's totally dramatic.

Your logic is intriguing. You do know these people you think you should not be part of the female-section are officially admitted?

On the other hand, you might be on to something: Born females in those groups should be allowed to take steroids. Maybe you should suggest that to the organizers.

Do we have any links to professional lady-competitors complaining about this problem at all?
