Hurricane Ida will hit us coast tonight with strength 3 or 4, which will push Afghanistan out of the headlines probably never to return.
Never to return?

Are you serious? Even sleepy grandpa Jo in his less lucid days knows that can't happen.

Posted this on the Biden thread but it may be more appropriate here:

Excellent article by Matt Taibbi regarding Afganistan - well written and calls both parties out - rightfully so in my view!:

Oh, it will be returning on and on and at least in the next 3 years expect the GOP to use it as proof that Biden's foreign policy is detrimental to the US. In fact, and to my surprise, his administration is so far shockingly incompetent on the international front.

This link should work (copied from the Biden thread). Paywall doesn't hit.

Disturbing... both BBC and independent sources, and now even the NYT in its usual twisted-acknowledgement way, state that some if not most of the dead at Kabul airport were not from the ISIS-K bombers, but from Americans and their proxies shooting at the crowd after the explosions.

If you ever feel useless, remember it took 20 years, thousands of lives, trilions of dollars and 4 US presidents to replace the Taliban with the Taliban

Let's not forget Afghanistan in general has been a playground for superpowers and US/CIA has a role in rise of both Mujahideen & Taliban

Re: Afghanistan: misplaced trust in USA evident?

This - they claim - is the car which was filled with explosives and the Americans hit with a drone.

Had it been filled with explosives, wouldn't it be in bits and pieces an no longer recognizable as a car?
I'm not an expert but it sure puzzled me.

The entire thing cost $2 trln USD.
Afghanistan has 40mln people, GDP today is $20bln (yup, only $500 per capita and year).

If the cost had been paid out to the Afghanis, that would have amounted to five times their GDP each and every year.

Check the vague discription, it doesn't claim to be the car the article talks about.
That drone attack could have happened any time.

Actually I saw it on the German news where they showed this picture and said this is the car.

The last US C-17 plane left the Hamid Karzai International Airport at 3:29 p.m. ET and cleared Afghanistan's airspace as the final step to remove all U.S. forces from the country,

I really donít see how airlines are going to trust the baggage handlers not to bomb the plane, unless itís their own non-Afghan staff.

Well that suggests an organised group. And they would have an a reason why they would want to do that. Most of the airlines serving Kabul are going to be from Muslim countries.

I canít see why they would want to bomb people leaving Afghanistan, much easier to just shoot them on the way to the airport.

Well, they know all the tricks, so...

What better way to catch a terrorist than to hire one?
