What would you do with $100 Million?

Jeff Bezos, the Amazon founder, and world's wealthiest man, said Tuesday after flying to the edge of space that he planned to award $100 million each to CNN contributor Van Jones and chef José Andrés.

Bezos said that Jones and Andres were free to do "what they want" with the money.
"They can give it all to their own charity," Bezos said at a press conference after his trip to space. "Or they can share the wealth. It is up to them."

The money, Bezos said, was tied to a "surprise" philanthropic initiative he wanted to announce called the Courage and Civility Award.

Re: What would you do with $100 Million?

Marton, now that I went into that Art of thinking vividly... with those $$ I'd send you and Jeff boy explore the space and come back in 2300 years

on another note I'm disgusted by people like Jeffy and such ..

It reminds me often about my talks with friends about Carnegie... Some people see Carnegie as an example of humanity, charity, nobility.. then they evoke that beautiful carnegie Hall then the uni then the grants .. ohhh but, the truth is, these people abuse poor people so they create immense wealth, have all the advantages and then..they play God , divinity .... humanity ))

that's why my friends have heard nothing about how Carnegie and Frick treated people... they even hired militia to hit on poor workers
Did Carnegie shoot at some of his workers ? yes...

40 workers had been shot, and nine killed; 20 Pinkertons had been shot, and seven killed.
Slashed wages, evicted workers from their company houses, stopped negotiating with union leaders, and threatened to bring in the Pinkertons — a detective agency for hire that amounted to a private army of thugs. When workers called a strike, Frick called on the Pinkertons.

But, just like Bezos , Carnegie and all ..they create wealth by abusing the system and people and then they play fairies and saints
beautiful isnt it ?

Firstly marton, please kindly provide links to sources for people to read and verify what you post. You fail to do that a lot and it's really bad netiquette for others to have to google what you quote to validate it. Please just provide a link to exactly what you read to produce this post. Simples.

As to the news, offering 2 people $100m and saying they can either donate or keep the wealth is pretty much the opposite of a good charitable deed and seems like something ostentatious done in the heat of the moment from ego. He could have donated a comparatively small amount to them for personal uses and then stipulated the rest should go to charities. I imagine the world are seeing this act and thinking "wtf, two people were just immediately enriched beyond their wildest dreams and they theoretically don't have to do anything good with it".

It is... excessive.

Re: What would you do with $100 Million?

If it was done anonymously the people might have the choice to keep it. Being done in such a public way puts a lot of pressure on them. By rights they could vanish from private life and do what they want, but more likely they'll set up a charitable trust to hold the money and parcel it out to their causes.

Re: What would you do with $100 Million?

I would do exactly what said I would do in the thread "What would you do with 2-3 million" ... perhaps place a few million extra in the bank for insurance and I would donate the rest. I would make it my full time job to help animals and seek out small charities in need - no donations to big charities where the CEO makes high six figures.

You could buy directly, they would issue extra shares.

Daily turnover averages about $12 million by value, I am sure it could be done in a couple of weeks.

Both already loaded, according to the internet.

Re: What would you do with $100 Million?

The public billionaires (Bezos, Musk, Zuckerberg etc) like to play games they are so bored.

Now this psychological game by Bezos is the most extreme thus far. He's not that far off to being a real life jigsaw equivalent I think.
