Does anyone else here think that Johnson is finished?

I do, and I believe he knows that himself.

Starmer isn't cutting through so Boris will stay until he gets someone other than Carrie pregnant, then Rishi will take over.

Welcome back JackieH

The man seems to be teflon coated, there have been numerous times this year when I thought he was finished and yet nothing sticks.

Yes BM,the only reason he is still there, I think.

But he has been looking so dejected and lost ... and could not believe his 'kermit' comment fell totally flat!

Hope he will be strong enough to support the nation through the upcoming winter.
The energy shortage etc. will be very hard for poor people.

Re: Does anyone else here think that Johnson is finished?

Even the Financial Times is coming to this conclusion

''One thing is clear. However the coronavirus crisis plays out in Britain, the Boris Johnson government we thought we knew is over. The rest of his premiership will be spent on this crisis and its aftermath. There will be little space for anything else. And that is assuming that he is still in place to oversee the aftermath.

Some of his government’s innate Gaullism may still fit with what comes next, but other aspects of the Johnson revolution, the assault on the civil service or the BBC, the drive for lower taxation and some of the regional policy are vanishing before our eyes.

Even Brexit must have a question mark over its completion, if not yet on whether it happens, most definitely on when.

There is obviously no certainty that Mr Johnson comes through this as prime minister at all, though those dreaming of his downfall should remember that the worse things get for him the worse they must first have got for the nation. While he has the parliamentary numbers to stay in power, there could conceivably come a point when early mistakes cost him the support of his own party and the country. If he gets through the crisis he may be broken by it and the recriminations which follow. There is no avoiding the grisly global scorecard against which he will be judged. But even if he endures, the landscape will be changed entirely''.

At least another 5 years. No credible challenger and returning from lockdown with growing economy and good news following COVID economic damage.

Not that youíll believe it, but itís the outcome like it or not.

Wait and see.

Most of the so called 'Project Fear' predictions have come to be very real.
Anecdotal, but most of our family and friends who were pro Brexit and supported Johnson's 'appointment' have turned recently.

Nah, because Keir Starmer is rubbish, the only possibility is a leadership change within the Conservative party. Sunak would be great I think.

Re: Does anyone else here think that Johnson is finished?

We know Labour is un-electable at the moment, I agree. But that does not mean Johnson is not finished.

Running out of petrol and some things in shops is one thing - when we run out of chemicals for water purification (soon), and cancer treating isotopes...and essential utilities like gas and electricty, just as winter is coming + the flu season and shortages in hospitals and care homes, etc, etc, is another.

I do believe the Tories are a-turning- including the Cabinet. Wait and see.

Re: Does anyone else here think that Johnson is finished?

I believe Johnson will call a General Election (Yes! Another one!) in June 2022, which the tories will win reasonably comfortably, depending on how this winter pans out, but he'll resign before Christmas 2022. Then he'll take 6mths out to 'write' a best selling memoir, but he'll move over to the House of Lords before the Covid Inquiry finally happens.

Starmer hasn't cut through with the public. Johnson only understands people who get genuinely angry with him and finds it far too easy to fob off Starmer's more succinct analysis of his policies and actions. The only Labour MP who has cut through in the House is Ed Miliband...twice! No idea who will replace Starmer next year, but personally, I'd like someone a bit more solid who can garner cross party support and respect, such as Dan Jarvis. That guy's a dark horse. He's repeatedly refused calls to stand for leader because he was widowed and wanted to give his young children a stable upbringing. He's since remarried and has a 3rd young child, so we may have to wait longer for him to go for leader.

I'm LD through and through, but definitely not happy with the current leadership and their policies.

If anything, the state of British politics is so astonishingly poor at the moment, that perhaps it would be the perfect time to finally embark on a complete overhaul the system.

According to the Daily Mail, the only things the British care about when voting is who to kick off Strictly this week.

Re: Does anyone else here think that Johnson is finished?

Apart that Biden has made it very clear a Deal with them was not going to happen due to the UK/NI/Irish border - so this is pretty unlikely

It was just a question and I am genuinely interested in your answers. I do believe all the signs are there and becoming clearer by the day. But we will see.

On destryoing the country? And yes, if Labour refuses to unite and ally, he will continue, you are probably right.

And in the meantime, people who think as I do get accused of being Tories by some, and far left by others- which is so ironical and actually quite funny, in a weird way.
