Re: All about Trump and 2024

Lawyers representing former President Trump’s campaign said that it will no longer enforce confidential or non-disparagement agreements (NDAs), according to court documents filed on Tuesday.

Quote:
John M. Phillips, a lawyer who represented Manigault Newman during her successful bid against the NDA agreement, praised the development.

“After @OMAROSA publicly defeated the Trump Campaign and substantial attorneys fees were awarded and the Campaign’s NDA was held unenforceable, the Campaign has officially given up and is releasing everyone from the NDA.

“After @OMAROSA publicly defeated the Trump Campaign and substantial attorneys fees were awarded and the Campaign’s NDA was held unenforceable, the Campaign has officially given up and is releasing everyone from the NDA.
Kudos to Alva Johnson, Jessica Denson, and all who fought these NDAs,” Phillips tweeted.
The Trump campaign NDA's were always a joke, the courts found they were poorly designed and drafted, so gave massive compensation payments to people who fought the NDAs.

More trouble for Trump

Trump tax returns must be given to Congress, federal appeals court says in a new ruling.

The appeals panel (3 - 0 decision) said the House committee, which has sought Trump’s tax records for years as part of an inquiry into how the Internal Revenue Services audits presidential income tax returns, had the right under the law to obtain them from the U.S. Treasury Department.
No doubt Trump will try to run the clock out until after the mid-term elections.

He has no more to do with it--Treasury will have to move.

Please don't confuse invoking the right to silence and trying to hide something.

On the other side, Trump never seems to know when to shut up so we'll see how well he uses this right.

He is referencing the time when Trump stated:

“You see the mob takes the Fifth,” .... “If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?”

Re: All about Trump and 2024

It is claimed federal investigators served an earlier grand jury subpoena and took away sensitive national security documents from former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago property during a June meeting.

If this new search shows he did not hand over everything in June then he could be facing something more serious than is currently speculated.

Re: All about Trump and 2024

Quote:
The simple solution to all this hysteria about the Mar-A-Lago search was for Trump to publicly release the warrant, which would have shown exactly what the FBI was looking for.
If Trump is such a victim, why wouldn’t he do that?
And why were his GOP allies not pressing him to?
Instead, it is now Attorney General Merrick Garland who had to request that the warrant be unsealed, given the heightened public interest.

Garland is calling Trump’s bluff, forcing his lawyers either to argue against unsealing the warrant — signifying Trump has something to hide — or make the warrant public so that the secrecy can no longer be used as a weapon against the Justice Department.
Everybody is jumping on the bandwagon
  • Marjorie Taylor Greene on Tuesday hawked "Defund the FBI" hats and caps on her campaign store.
  • Hillary Clinton's team, meanwhile, is fundraising with "But Her Emails" caps and shirts.
  • Republican Sen. Rick Scott of Florida, during an interview Tuesday on Fox Business. “The way our federal government has gone, it’s like what we thought about the Gestapo, people like that. They just go after people.”
  • “There are things you can do,” Republican Rep. Andy Biggs at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), reflecting on Congress’ power. “You start defunding some of these bad agencies. The FBI. The DOJ.”

Re: All about Trump and 2024

I find the obstruction charge to be the most interesting one, meaning he could be charged if he lied to his attorneys or his attorneys lied about the documents. After the DOJ visit to Mar-a-Lago on June 3 at least one of his attorneys signed a statement to the effect that there were no more documents in Trump's possession. Either they lied to the DOJ, or he did. Makes no difference if the docs were "unclassified" by a "standing order" that apparently only he knew of.

The other tantalizing question is who told the FBI what to look for and where? Apparently they knew exactly what was missing and where it was stored. Things that make you go hmmmm.

Also interesting is the mention of the Espionage Act, Congress enacted the Act on June 15, 1917, before the classification of documents. It protected defense information whether classified or not.
In the modern day, it's been used (amongst other things) against those who remove information from secure facilities and store it at home which is insecure.

Probably the Act can be used against people who store defense information in their retirement homes, people found guilty can be fined or jailed for from two to twenty years depending on the exact offense.

How about an unsecured computer server in their home? That count too?

Trump really was not a good judge of character when hiring people. How can someone so critical of the war in Iraq go and hire Bolton as an advisor.

Kindly point out the regulation that made it legal for Hillary to host her mails on a private server.
And to have 30k mails "disappear".
