Re: All about Trump and 2024

Trump has filed a case against Twitter in Florida demanding he is allowed to tweet again.
His main arguments are it is not fair to so treat an ex-president and the Taliban are allowed to tweet. Probably he does not expect to win, it is just red meat for his base.

His base will ignore facts like he is banned after ignoring multiple warnings and, like it or not, the Taliban are the Afghan government and therefore so long as they obey Twitter rules then it is hard for Twitter to ban them.

But Taliban had a twitter account before they recently came to power

I get that Twitter is a private company, but it's also a publicly traded company and don't they have a fiduciary duty to their shareholders to create the most value? And I can imagine that they have forsaken gobs of dollars by foregoing the user engagements and controversy of Donald Trump.

Thank you for the historical notes but we all have to live in today.

Good for Twitter that they did not lower their standards to accommodate Trump.

Twitter's worldwide revenue in Q1 2021 was 28% higher than Q1 2020 so your claim they "have forsaken gobs of dollars" is just a pipe dream

cherry picking data is fun: In Q2 they were down 23% and much of its growth this year has been internationally

In Q2 2021 Twitter posted its fastest revenue growth since 2014, 74% increase since Q2 2020.

Sorry, meant ad revenue is down 23%. Not saying it's due to losing the person with the 8th most followers who also has among the most potential for long streams of comments to every post.

Your quote is about Q2 2020 when Trump was in full flow and ad revenue crashed down

I am talking about Q2 2021 when Twitter's results were excellent without Trump.

Re: All about Trump and 2024

my mistake, I read too quickly through the article. Basically you are right, worldwide there was a revenue increase though the US revenue stagnated or dropped.

It takes more than losing one person to damage twitter. But fiduciary duty means to maximize shareholder value and.....I don't know....it still is not clear to me how banning someone who draws eyeballs, when your business blueprint is to sell ads to said eyeballs is good practice. It is not as if there was a cost to keeping Trump on the platform.

The facts do not support that Trump's presence drives up advertising revenues on Twitter, comparing Q2 2020 with Q2 2021.

Your claim that "worldwide there was a revenue increase though the US revenue stagnated or dropped" is also incorrect, US revenue rose by more than the worldwide.

Quote:
U.S. advertising revenues totaled $562.3 million, up 98% year over year. International ad revenues increased 76% to $491.1 million.
There is probably more to it than just eyeballs, maybe Trump simply does not attract enough of the "wellpaid" demographic that interests those advertisers who pay the most for ads.

An expensive business being the US President
Quote:
Former President Trump has fallen off Forbes list of America’s richest people. Trump's fortune dropped to $2.5 bill, according to the Forbes 400 on Tuesday, which is $400 million short of the cutoff needed to make the list.
This is the first time in 25 years Trump has not been on Forbes 400.

Forbes had better watch out. Trump will sue them next for taking him off the list.

It is claimed by Paul Rudnick that Melania has spent the morning sending everyone on the Forbes list her photo, with her contact info.

I wonder if he's started repaying on all of those loans yet... I know they were supposed to come due very soon.

Regarding him potentially running in 2024, I've really been hoping he would just go away...

"like a miracle."

It would be entertaining to see him as Speaker of the House next year.

They'd end up having to take his gavel away before he hurts someone.

Maybe they should just give him a little closet office in the back of the Capitol building so he can still feel important. Let him watch congressional sessions via Zoom and give him fake papers to sign now and then. Someone could call him with a fake Chinese accent pretending to be the leader of China. Slip him his psych meds but tell him its his daily dose of Adderall instead.

I am afraid you are underestimating his electoral potential. Or that of De Santis, or Tucker, or the other social-media savvy post-democracy lunatics.

No, I'm not underestimating the stupidity of (many) Americans. It's one of the reasons I was happy to move away from the US.

Well, I'm sorry, but I do think it requires a certain amount of stupidity and ignorance to be a Trump-supporter. And he's very well-aware of what kind of "hold" he has over them and on the GOP in general.

"I could stand in the middle of 5th avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose any voters."

He empowers himself via hatred ("divide and conquer"), and he preys upon and exploits the ignorance and blind loyalty of his supporters.
