Maybe I'm naive, but isn't Trump an old story already, a "have been"? Usually I see no more news about him but maybe because I don't look for any.
Does anyone truly believe he'll candidate again in 2024?
Sadly Trump is not a has-been, he is the de facto leader of the Republican party. When he says to jump to a Republican their only question is how high.

Even worse it is impossible now for a Republican to be a successful candidate in an election if they do not positively subscribe to Trump's lies about a fraudulent presidential election.

Thanks, happy to be educated on pretty much everything.

Of course, I had my own version of American reality but that's neither here nor there. I have never pretended to be an expert, just a curious observer. I know in the past my audacity to comment on this theme was highly offensive to a particular mod who felt like she knew everything.
So I learned my lesson - sit back, relax and watch.

The GOP do not have another credible candidate.

Sorry, I mean the GOP have no credible candidates, so he'll have to do.
That has never stopped either party there in the past. The number of credible candidates or presidents over the last 30-odd years can probably be counted on a maximum of one finger.

Re: All about Trump and 2024

A judge has been assigned to hear Trump's lawsuit claiming executive privilege to stop distribution of documents pertaining to the Jan 6 riot.

The lead lawyer is Jesse Birnall based in Virginia who is not one of the top lawyers Trump usually uses for high profile cases. A complex constitutional case like this demands a top constitutional lawyer, usually, these are based in Washington.

Birnall represented Trump in a failed Nevada lawsuit against the election results.

Birnall has some association with Sidney Powell, the Trump campaign lawyer who was sanctioned for their role in similar lawsuits against the election results.

I can imagine any well known constitutional lawyer taking on such a dumb case to begin with. Executive privilege goes with the office of president, Trump is not the president.

Exceptions apply though.

In VA, GOP candidate Youngkin seems to always have kept his distance from Trump. However now, in the ongoing race for governor, Dem competitor McAuliffe tries to imply closeness to Trump by Youngkin, in an attempt to have moderate conservative voters shy away from Youngkin.

Yes, GOP candidate Youngkin seems to have kept his distance from Trump.

Unfortunately for him, Trump did not get the memo and keeps endorsing Youngkin, last time was just a week ago.

If Youngkin wins in VA it will be a disaster for the Dems after Biden won VA by 10 points. It will also be a major dilemma for other GOP candidates on whether to adopt a pro-Trump strategy or not.
