#Magaga | | | | | LOL!
I thought MAGA was a great slogan, short, easy to say and everyone has a mental image of what great means.
Whereas MAGAGA is not short, not easy to say, and what sort of mental image do people have of glorious? The problem people will have is to figure out how is "glorious" clearly different from "great" and how is it better.
So far Trump does not have a clear message for 2024. Of course his cult will vote for him but other people need more convincing.

House is now 219 GOP - 212 Dems with 4 open races. Alaska likely going blue, no idea on the three races in CA, small GOP lead but plenty of votes left to count.
In any event, GOP has max 5 seats majority. As I predicted |

Wait, a min....there was a CPAC in Mexico last week. A bunch of flamboyant conservative speakers from Ted Cruz, one son of Bolsonaro, Steve Bannon, and even some Hungarians showed up in Mexico City for 2 days of ranting against "socialism" while being cheered by local religious fundamentalists.
Trump had a nice video message, the guy needs some rest... |

So Trump does not own the US Supreme Court | Quote: | | | | The Supreme Court today rejected an emergency appeal from former President Trump seeking to shield his tax returns from House Democrats. | | | | | If Trump decides to destroy the GOP that is OK with me, they should have not bent the knee to him for so long and so cravenly. | Quote: | | | | Former Attorney General William Barr warns Trump ‘will burn the whole house down,’ calls for new GOP leader.
Barr on Monday called for a new leader of the Republican Party, warning in a blistering rebuke that former President Trump “will burn the whole house down.”
“Unless the rest of the party goes along with him, he will burn the whole house down by leading ‘his people' out of the GOP,” Barr said in a scathing op-ed published in the New York Post on Monday which media has moved from 110% supporting Trump to the opposite.
“Trump’s willingness to destroy the party if he does not get his way is not based on principle, but on his own supreme narcissism,” he added. “His egoism makes him unable to think of a political party as anything but an extension of himself — a cult of personality.” | | | | | A lot of Barr's article is true but far too late.

Kanye West will be a presidential candidate in 2024. And as he revealed on Twitter, he is counting on Donald Trump to assist him. Despite her being a Republican I was happy to see Murkowski win a Senate seat in Alaska as Murkowski was one of only seven Republicans who voted to convict Trump at his second impeachment trial.
Even better, she survived a challenge from Trump-endorsed Kelly Tshibaka whose Senate endorsements have proven less than magic for the GOP, great for the Dems.
Democratic House Representative Mary Peltola also of Alaska won reelection by a huge margin against Sarah Palin (ex-Alaska governor and Tea Party member) who was backed by Donald Trump.
Trump probably has a good chance of winning the Presidential nomination, the more candidates then the more influence his core supporters will have also his team has the experience of winning two nominations.

With all the focus on Congress, there has been little said about the downstream 2022 United States state legislative elections.
This is the first midterm election since 1934 in which the party of the incumbent president did not lose any state legislative chambers to the opposition despite all the redistricting.
In fact, the GOP lost five, the Dems won four and one is a bipartisan coalition; two are not yet decided - Arizona and New Hampshire.
The Democrats have flipped the Minnesota Senate, Michigan Senate, Michigan House of Representatives, and Pennsylvania House of Representatives from Republican control, and established a coalition government in the Alaska Senate.
They gained supermajorities in the Vermont House and Senate.

The Republican majority on the Cochise County, Arizona, Board of Supervisors pushed back certification until Friday, citing concerns about voting machines but without providing any evidence. Because Monday was the deadline for all 15 Arizona counties to certify their results, Cochise’s action could put at risk the votes of some 47,000 county residents.
The Arizona Secretary of State has said they will publish the results without this county.
This could be an interesting own goal for the county, for example, in the Attorney General race the Dem lead would jump from 500 votes to around two and a half thousand.

Small steps are in a good direction.
I had forgotten about this lawsuit. | Quote: | | | | A federal judge in Washington, DC, on Monday said that Donald Trump doesn’t have “absolute immunity,” as the former president claimed he should, in response to a lawsuit in its early stages related to Trump’s actions around the 2020 presidential election.
Civil rights groups have sued Trump for trying to disenfranchise voters. While Trump’s lawyers argue he can’t be held liable in civil lawsuits because of immunity around the presidency, Judge Emmet Sullivan of the DC District Court on Monday disagreed. | | | | | | The following 2 users would like to thank marton for this useful post:

Common sense at last | Quote: | | | | In a major defeat for former President Donald Trump, a federal appeals court on Thursday halted a third-party review of documents seized from his Mar-a-Lago estate.
The ruling removes a major obstacle to the Justice Department’s investigation into the mishandling of government records from Trump’s time in the White House.
The three-judge panel of the 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals reversed US District Judge Aileen Cannon’s order appointing a so-called special master to sort through thousands of documents found at Trump’s home to determine what should be off limits to investigators. The court said the judge should not have intervened in the first place.

| | Re: All about Trump and 2024 Fox News takes small steps away from Trump | Quote: | | | | Fox News is parting ways with Lara Trump, a leading conservative political figure and the daughter-in-law of the former president.
Her reported departure comes at a time when a number of conservative media figures, including leading hosts on Fox, have sought distance from the former president or suggested the Republican party might need a new leader.
