No way Jordan will be speaker, he wants House Judiciary chair, maybe Intelligence, but that is it.

I am quite sure the 20 hold-outs are holding the House hostage on behalf of Trump...disruption pure. This is pretty much confirmed by his refusal to endorse Kevin.

The Dems must be lovin' it.

Trump came out strongly in favor of Mcc last month and ordered his opponents to stand down, so I see it as another of his failures.
This is not incompatible with the opponents being MAGA nutters who are moving into the wider reaches of such lunacy

This is all good news for me. The handful of Trump hardliners are basically sabotaging their own party, showing to everyone that 1) Trump has lost the majority support within the party 2) he's acolytes are a destructive force without really offering any solution.

There already are 3rd parties. If you wish to waste your vote, you can vote for them.

I see this as a good thing. It will be a good fight for the republicans, but in the end they will get concessions from McCarthy. He is really keen for the power, so the more the holdouts can extract from him, the better. That means solid promises on what he will do that benefits the GOP.

It‘s a pity it did not happen in the Senate but Cocaine Mitch has too much power over the purse-strings.

The Dem keeps getting most votes so to my simple mind he should be the Speaker.
I suppose it is an absolute majority vote;
a majority over all rivals combined; more than half.
"to be elected, a candidate must receive an absolute majority of the votes.

If the stuff the holdouts are demanding is so good for the GOP then why is the majority against it??

Those acolytes know that once they elect Kevin as speaker, any leverage they have will disappear and they will join Trump on his journey to irrelevance. So they are fund-raising of this rebellion, even if it means harming the GOP.

We shouldn't be surprised, the US is getting used to minority rule.

One of the main alleged claims the Gaetz 20 have is to introduce a motion to vacate speakership with only 5 votes. If McCarthy or Scalise or whoever gives them that, they will forever by blackmailed by the ultra crazy. Who want to block everything, in particular the debt ceiling. Whatever is left of responsible Republicans might ar some point vote with the Dems on debt to keep the country liquid. So the ultra-crazy want an option to blow up everything then. Essentially break the party.

Actually now it is down to just 1 person. They also seem to have won a promise that Kevin McCarthy will introduce a vote on term limits. Supposedly, there will also be changes to the appropriations process where you can no longer stuff everything together and get away with it.
