Re: So, what is next for the UK ?

How about tackling the question in the OP- rather than going on about Johnson and his work ethic? Although there are questions to be asked about going on yet another holiday in the middle of the biggest crisis the UK has faced in a very long time. And of course

JackH, I have cut and paste above, as quote not working for me.

Excuse me, what is this biggest crisis the UK has faced in a very long time
you talk about?

Covid in my opinion was the biggest CRISIS of the decade and in my opinion UK dealt very well with it. Though there are questions being asked about some of the spending and who got what contracts and so on and so forth.

If you refer to shortage of truck drivers. Unfortunately during COVID times, a number of people were unable to train and also a problem with taking tests for a time. I believe a number of European truck drivers pulled out because of the stopping of the huge tax incentive, I believe it was called IR35.

UK does need to improve things for truck drivers, overnight stopping places with showers and toilets as well as day time short stopping places with toilets and in town centre. UK is very poor on that front compared to Europe.

I'm fairly sure PM's and Presidents work longer hours than the normal 9-5.
I’m fairly sure the last President and current PM haven’t done so.

Non attendance of optional meetings screams workaholic to me. Fair play.
Attendance of a subordinate as is the recommended method of a particular meeting type screams good delegation to me. We’ll done, sir.

Based on what? This daft thread is getting dafter by the post.

Is “I’m fairly sure” is now a valid argument?

Because I’m fairly sure Boris is a shape-shifting alien lizard…

Are you suggesting the golfiest, most holidaying President of all time was busting his not insubstantial gut?

Trump’s light schedule is common knowledge and public record, not sure what’s up for debate there.

A fairly miserable existence !!

They keep cutting services and making funding cuts, yet population is getting bigger.

Surely a bigger population should also mean more police, more ambulances, more firemen, more teachers, hospitals, schools etc.

It just means that some public servants will have to work harder. Some, not all, obviously

The Conservative manifesto promised an EU referendum.

The people voted to leave.
Bozo's manifesto pledge was to "get Brexit done". He will deliver on that sometime. Priti “Vacant” Patel ended FOM. Also a manifesto pledge in 2019.

People voted leave. The manner of Brexit was decided by the Maybot and Bozo. Bozo got an 80 seat majority on that basis. The UK public are now reaping the benefits thereof.

People voted leave.
Please not that old canard.

A majority of the people did not vote leave; A majority of the electorate did not vote leave.

Some people voted leave but these represent something like a third of the people

A majority of the people WHO VOTED, voted leave. The 28% of people who didn't vote in the referendum only have themselves to blame for the result.

So now your telling me my position as well! So you are giving the "well known" position, "the overall impression" you're now even letting me know my own opinion on the matter!

Man, maybe you should be PM you just know how to tell everyone what their opinion is.

I had thought he was pretty rubbish as a PM, but I stand corrected!

So basically you're saying that direct democracy doesn't work and is a fix?

Could I kindly suggest that you've really chosen the wrong country to live in.

In the time frame, I don't think any of the other parties could have made a better job of it.

Do you think they could have?

It was always going to be a mess irrespective of who was in charge of getting the job done.

I don't think I will ever move back to UK, unless I am really desperate. I just don't feel safe there.
Well, I have been nearly three weeks now in the Cotswolds.. an area about the size of central Switzerland and I must concur, their does seem to be an inordinate amount of falsely parked bikes in the villages, a lot of the local tractor driving farmers have a cavalier attitude to driving and I listened to a German and an American having a heated argument over a parking space in Broadway.
But a hotbed of crime?….perleeze…even hand-wringing Guardianistas seem to grudgingly agree that it’s rather pleasant.
I must agree that Streatham or Moss Side among others at 2pm in the morning can be a bit tasty but you don’t feel safe anywhere in the UK? Anywhere?.. you really need to get a life.
FYI, the only time in my life I have been threatened with a knife was in Zurich at Platzspitz by some Swiss smackhead.

Good, we've some common ground. The only difference being i believe he's rubbish and lazy, and you believe he is rubbish and diligent.

Always nice to find a bit of simpatico.

EDIT: to bring back on topic, now we've an agreement of sorts. What next for the UK? I would guess a continued unmanaged decline propped up by the credulous fools Boris relies on for support. Now that the EU and Immigrants are getting a bit boring as bogeymen to blame, I do wonder where he'll turn next - probably gingers, everyone could get behind that.
