Nicola Sturgeon to resign as Scotland's first minister

"Nicola Sturgeon is to resign as Scotland's first minister after more than eight years in the role.

The Scottish National Party leader is expected to make the announcement at a hastily-arranged news conference in Edinburgh.

It is not thought that her departure will be immediate, allowing time for a successor to be elected.

A source close to Ms Sturgeon - the longest-serving first minister - told the BBC that she had "had enough"."

We've had more than enough of her as well.

Re: Nicola Sturgeon to resign as Scotland's first minister

From outside the UK I don't really know what her and SNP's policies are, but they bet heavily on one major topic where the chances to actually deliver were "not good".
When the opposing part has veto power on the subject, it goes either like this or like Catalunya...

...or like the Italian "Northern League", aiming for secession in 1996, making an alliance with a party named "National Alliance" in 2001, dropping "Northern" from the name and being voted in the South in 2020...

I think there must be some mistake, John William told us only last week that she would be "Scotexiting out of the UK and back in the European Union."

Thoughts with John at this difficult time.

The voting system in Scotland is partially styled on the PR system which means the SNP represents the views of a very significant portion of the voting public, that is not going to change and if anything you can expect a new leader to be more extreme as they take control.

One can only hope the the genius [not] who came up with the idea of using gender to orchestrate an "English meddling in Scottish affairs" to be used as an argument next election is now show the door.

I think that was the issue, the SNP going with this gender recognition reform was completely against the views of not only the majority of Scots, but also the majority of SNP voters.

If they had any sense they'd get the very impressive Kate Forbes as their next leader, who would row them back from a lot of this culture war nonsense.

Leaders come & go but the objective remains the same for the SNP as another SNP leader 'takes up the baton' towards Scottish Independence, so Scot-exit still on track despite Nicola no longer being at the helm.

That actually might help the cause.

Re: Nicola Sturgeon to resign as Scotland's first minister

The easiest way for the SNP to gain independence for Scotland would be to campaign for a referendum to take place in England. I say that as half-Scottish.

I rather suspect that keeping the gravy train running is more important to the majority in Holyrood than actually gaining independence and having to act like grown ups (cf LibDems).

Call me a cynic but..
It's all perfectly normal...and not at all suspicious...when a politician suddenly and unexpectedly resigns.

Nothing to do with the disappearing £600K, Police fraud investigation or £100k loan from her husband.

Re: Nicola Sturgeon to resign as Scotland's first minister

Interesting that the SNP's chief media spokesman resigned yesterday and Sturgeon's husband Peter Murrell resigned today. It left me wondering if a load of sh1t about Mr and Mrs Murrell is about to hit the fan as there have been enough rumours flying round since her resignation - and way before that.

Anyway, good riddance to bad rubbish, here's hoping Scotland may yet get rid of the SNP and become a better place to retire to
