[Malaysia] EPF dividend 2008 expected to be at 4.5%

Almost the lowest within the last decade. Hopefully, the official announcement states a higher rate.

Sometimes I wonder how they keep paying out decent returns even when markets are not good...Petronas money, or a national Ponzi scheme?

Confirmed at 4.50%

They work in mysterious ways. I recall in 1997 just before the Asian Financial Crisis, they had ordered through my firm several complex financial management applications ( FILMS & CAMRA by SS&C ). The vendor's Russian team of computer scientists complained of the extent of "customisation" demanded by EPF to suit their needs. It turned out that the customisation gave more powers to its fund managers invest abroad than was officially allowed, which might have brought back better than expected returns to stakeholders especially during the AFC of 1997/8.

Are you really complaining about a 4.5% return in these markets?

I wish could invest in the EPF in 2008..

Re: [Malaysia] EPF dividend 2008 expected to be at 4.5%

Maybe we have been spoilt, and expecting higher returns.

There were strict controls about investing EPF's funds - a certain percentage was to be invested in local projects which were questionable.

However, with the extra leverage given the decreased oversight provided by the software tools, fund managers were able to and have invested in bullion ( Portugal and elsewhere ) and presumably it paid off.

Were you to find a suitable Malaysian resident / citizen, you might be able to dump into their pension fund and claim it after the account holder has reached a certain age
