Re: Israel - Palestine - Part 2

What is Israel and for that matter Palestine, going to do, if with the US leaving Iraq, Iraq becomes an annexed state of Iran? Will Iran still need ties to Hezbollah?
Get the Iranians to help with the situation in Afghanistan and workng with JStreet. Forget the weapons, it looks like Iran is on their way to refining their own oil and nuclear power.

If the words are indeed your own then I apologise for questioning; prior form indicates a lot of copy pasta masquerading as opinion. But we've been down this route a fair few times...
No sometimes I can write when I don't multitask. I sometimes speak to people that I shouldn't speak to and get involved with things that I shouldn't- I don't mind being reminded to shut the hell up occasionally- curiosity killed the cat. I should stick to what I understand which is more than some but less than necessary.

Correct, no one is claiming the opposite.

Yes we have discussed this before it's about time this was addressed. Gaza has been a dumping ground for expired drugs for some time. The dumping company's reputation looks good because they are donating aid, they may even get a tax break and avid have the expense of disposing of it properly.
It was going on way before the flotilla

World is dumping expired medicine on to Gaza which could enter the water table

No doubt those guys on Marmara was cutting metal bars..etc.., preparing something to defend themselves against an act of "Piracy" which occurred in international waters. I would not blame people doing the same against Somali pirates.

Israel has the full right to protect itself, but in their own garden. Attacking a ship in international waters is a pure act of piracy, add to this stealing items from the ship by Israeli soldiers and the thing is better than Somalians.

Or is it becoming a hobby for Israel after attacking USS Liberty also in international waters!

Re: Israel - Palestine - Part 2

Shouldn't we discuss about the peace talks between netanyahu and abbas?

Or is everyone so skeptical that it should be considered as a non-event`?

I feel pity for the palestinians and israelis peace seeker. This is going to be a travesty of peace talks again. Abbas is not legit: his mandate expired early this year.

The Flotilla was discussed in 2 other , lengthy, threads. If you have anything to add to that discussion - please do it there.

Abbas & the peace talks - these talks already cost 4 people their lives (including a pregnant woman, shot point blank by Islamist terrorists). Abbas lost the election years ago to the same Islamist group.

Perhaps, but more so than Hamas... in any case, I find the "requirements" of both sides to be disgustingly primitive. "land" ... pah! Hong Kong, Monaco, Macao, Manhattan, Singapore...all doing fine with less land than either of them.

Re: Israel - Palestine - Part 2

Hamas is legit but not acceptable by the US. The activities of Hamas are not acceptable to many Muslims- but when do you hear of Muslim states criticizing them? Netanyahu is gagged and crippled by stuff like this:

but equally there are Jews who stand up against such radicalism.

The White House have condemned the group and so should Netanyahu- but he won't. he says that they are not his views but he takes no action against them. Netanyahu is at the talks, Hamas aren't.

Quote:
In response to the rabbis' public rebuke of the state's legal system, the Israeli Attorney General and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu kept silent. Indeed, since the publication of Torat Ha'Melech, Netanyahu has strenuously avoided criticizing its contents or the author's leading supporters.

Abbas doesn't seem very happy - He doesn't expect much from the talks either.

Re: Israel - Palestine - Part 2

I have been reading The National an English Abu Dhabi based newspaper. I read it with reservation because as far as I can make out it is the brainchild of Martin Newland editor of the Daily Telegraph. He is a devout catholic and conservative who is reportedly seeking to be a conservative party candidate at the next election. So I could see it as being antisemitic.

However they do have some interesting reports and good reporters.

It seems to me from reading the reports below that both Gaza and Israel have problems linked to corruption stemming from the spoils of war and the threat of fractionalization from political dissent.

Under the gun: how the people of Gaza feel about Hamas by Mitchell Prothero

Peace might upend wealth of Israelis

As far as the Gaza flotilla is concerned, I am reminded of a joke adapted by Woody Allen

“Private Heimerdinger was writing a letter home to his mother. ‘The food in this camp is absolute poison,’ he complained. Then he added, ‘and such small portions!’”

The idea of the Jewish flotilla is great, but why aren't they transporting Concrete, building materials and not out-of-date needed pharmaceuticals?

The Gaza fisherman probably won't be able to use the nets because they are not allowed out far enough to get to where the fish are. the musical instruments and toys for kids are nice, maybe they can strike up a marching band marching band- kazoos anyone?

I guess that it is the thought that counts. I doubt that Netanyahu will have a problem with this flotilla, so it will provide a good Jewish public relations exercise- psst!- next time bring something more concrete
