Switzerland will always be Switzerland...

What a beautiful country, there is nowhere on Earth like here....people actually do take it very easy & enjoy what they were blessed with. Christmas is coming & although unlike (almost) everywhere else Santa doesn't smile.....there is no reason to believe that people are not happy or content here!

Business is as it always was, consistent but not groundbreaking.

People still take no risks, everything works & its still the safest country on the planet. But is that enough?

During a recession times can be hard unless you only really want peace & quiet. Jobs are scarce & becoming scarcer especially for foreigners with those who are SAP consultants (or those with related careers) only getting the real breaks. The Swiss don't change jobs as often as their underwear.

The money (pay) is better but what if there are very few jobs in the future for non-Swiss, how long must one be unemployed for (or is able to be)?

The dream is over, unless you are able to fully fit into this society, act & do everything the Swiss way then now maybe the time to leave.

There is no future for Switzerland as an international player, it had all its chances to become one of the most prominent countries in the world but it just didn't work out. What is left is a tourist paradise & a vaguely beneficial place to stash your cash. It is still however, one of the most beautifully preserved places you could ever wish for with a million to one chance of war ever destroying its enviable infrastructure.

Re: Switzerland will always be Switzerland...

Are you saying a similarly small country such as, say, Singapore has made more of itself than Switzerland has?

Re: Switzerland will always be Switzerland...

i think the secret is to blend in , to fit with the swiss way of life and fully integrate. thats easy for those of us that have swiss blood in us and/or were brought up the swiss way, in switzerland.

but it is the nicest , most beautiful place to be and we are guests, so must expect to be be treated as such.

if the dream is over , then that is sad , but things elsewhere are a lot worse and england isnt a very nice place to be ; so live the dream as long as you can , things will get better.

i think it is a saving grace that switzerland hasnt tried to be a world leader , that hasnt worked well for the uk or ussr has it ? i would rather see the uk as a small but efficient country , not overstretching its budgets , armed forces and people to the limit ......what exactly have we gained from all that ? absolutely nothing.

Once again a contradictory thread from you, and your last one only just finished.

Was trying to make some sense of what the OP wrote. Such disjointed thoughts. It was getting in the way of my digesting a tea of leftover shepherd's pie.

I think Switzerland is what it wants to be. Not a big player or superpower -- just left alone to live its way of life, its own brand of democracy.

Ok, ok. I think I get it.

"Switzerland is great, but if you are making no effort to integrate, then you may find it difficult in the future to get a job as the financial crisis has effected the availability, especially for stupid Auslanders who are not trying to blend in."

What a big pile of rubbish. Now is not the time to leave, but to stay.
-> Show me a country less affected by the recession.
Your times are hard here? Talked to somebody outside of CH lately?

No more jobs for foreigners? -> Show me a country with more foreigners than Switzerland!

I love to bash the country I live in for many things, especially cultural aspects that I find small minded or backward. But saying that Switzerland did not use its chances in the world economy is just rubbish.

Yes, there are not that many high-end expat-contracts anymore. Not just here, globally.

The Swiss are boring

Business is as it always was, consistent but not groundbreaking.

Boring.

People still take no risks, everything works & its still the safest country on the planet. But is that enough?

Boring

During a recession times can be hard unless you only really want peace & quiet. Jobs are scarce & becoming scarcer especially for foreigners with those who are SAP consultants (or those with related careers) only getting the real breaks. The Swiss don't change jobs as often as their underwear.

Boring

The money (pay) is better but what if there are very few jobs in the future for non-Swiss, how long must one be unemployed for (or is able to be)?

The dream is over, unless you are able to fully fit into this society, act & do everything the Swiss way then now maybe the time to leave.

Become boring in order to integrate

There is no future for Switzerland as an international player, it had all its chances to become one of the most prominent countries in the world but it just didn't work out. What is left is a tourist paradise & a vaguely beneficial place to stash your cash. It is still however, one of the most beautifully preserved places you could ever wish for with a million to one chance of war ever destroying its enviable infrastructure.

Dont come here unless you are prepared to become boring.

I am hungry! There's a lovely Lindt bittersweet sitting here unopened- if I open it it's gone.
