I suggest you do a little digging on the net for facts - they were not a 'matter of metres' away and were well out of sight and sound of the apartment.
How would you measure the distance in anything other than metres??

I doubt the poor child will ever be found now. A miserable, but nevertheless fascinating tale...

Exactly as 100000s of parent do (or did) on holiday. You sit in the bedroom all evening do you?
I guess I'm not part of those 100000s. When on holiday, we eat dinner with our kids and hang out in the bedroom all evening with them as well (unless we have a reliable babysitter like a relative or close friend (not some random person recommended by the hotel)).

I don't think they had invisible walls at the restaurant or the apartment. Nor did they have dog ears to be able to hear cries from the apartment. My memory is hazy now but how old were the twins? 5-7 months?

Sorry Ab they screwed up big time so no point defending them and making excuses about distance..

My point is that if my child had been "abducted" I would be going all out with information and not playing legal games even if that meant me getting banged up for something I did not do. Life without my child would not be worth it whether in front or behind bars. On top of that I would not have left such young kids alone just so that I could get tanked up. I guess we are all different.
I am 100% behind you on this as i have 2 small children, and would NEVER leave my children in a hotel room alone and go off for a drink, they mean the world to me, and if anything happened to them i would be lost. We will be going on a family holiday soon for 2 weeks, and they will be with me 24 hours a day, if we want to have a drink then we can always order room service, and play games with each other while the children sleep

I think there's no doubting your intentions but in my view (and I stress it is only my opinion) such a adamant determination to keep them in view 24 hours a day will not ultimately do you any good and that will replect on how much your children end up benefiting as a result.

While I would never go down the route of what Maddy's parents did... leave the children so that there was no way of knowing what happened to them, I would and indeed have left them in a hotel room with a listening service operated by the hotel.

I think it's important not to overreact to what is an extremely rare occurence. I can remember, before my children were born, an incident that took place in a river pub on my road. When I came home the police were all around the area looking for a little six year old boy who had gone missing. They were knocking on all the doors asking us to check our back gardens. Tragically they found him dead in the river just after midnight. In the afternoon he had been playing with his ten year old brother in the pub's garden, while his parents were inside having a drink. His brother went to the toilet and in that time, somehow not seen by anyone, he got over the fence and fell into the river.

I remember at the time my wife sounding off about how irresponsible the parents were, while I took the opposite view that it was just a tragic unfortunate accident. Now our children are ten and six as well and I would feel very strange, if in a similar position, telling them that they couldn't go out to play in the pub garden.

While I think all reasonable measures should be taken at all reasonable times, we shouldn't be a slave to the fear of tragedy, but instead accept that it sometimes happens and, when it strikes, those who suffer through it are to be pitied, not blamed.

Re: please HELP US TO FIND Maddy McCann

Very interesting case. Just from a purely speculative viewpoint I seriously doubt that the parents did it and there was a cover up. I doubt that two people could have covered up their tracks so throroughly and in the heat of the moment. However the whole abduction is very weird. Who would take so much risk, have such an organization around them etc to kidnap a tourist girl who the police would search for very, very thoroughly.

The British police seem to think Germany and Holland is where the German speakers live. All the wierdos in Switzerland and Austria must be breathing a sigh of relief.

Maddie detectives hunting two 'German-speaking men': E-fit of suspects revealed this week

Quote:
British detectives hunting for missing Madeleine McCann are looking for two German-speaking men whose computer-generated images will be broadcast on special TV appeals this week. ... Similar appeals will be made on Dutch programme Opsporing Verzocht (Investigation Required) on Tuesday night, and on the German version of Crimewatch, Aktenzeichen XY . . .  Ungelost (Case Files XY . . . Unsolved) on Wednesday night, as Madeleine’s parents make an international appeal for information.

Those portraits which have appeared in the press could fit many people. How long until the first completely innocent person becomes the victim of a tabloid feeding frenzy?

Re: please HELP US TO FIND Maddy McCann

Anything that keeps Madeleine in the public eye is a good thing.
If Madeleine was taken by gipsies, it is maybe better than other alternatives. I hope that the discovery of this little girl can help solve the mystery of Ben Needham's disappearance, and lead to finding him and Madeleine.
I do hope too that Maria's family can be traced.

couldn't help but shake my head, however, at the greek's police enthusiasm to solve the case with the recently found little girl in the roma camp, when they have done nothing when 500 (yes, five hundred) roma children went missing from a greek institution a few years ago http://www.enetenglish.gr/?i=news.en.article&id=1477
