Did anyone see the Goatse version of the logo, on boingboing.net? I was in Hysterics. http://www.boingboing.net/2007/06/04..._olympic_.html this is work safe.. unlike the original Goatse. And if you've no idea what the Goatse phenomenon is, than its probably not worth worrying about.

No, seriously, it seems to go up by 500 every few minutes so I really think it has a chance to force a change.
I emailed everyone in my contact list - please do the same if you hate that logo: http://www.gopetition.co.uk/petitions/change-the-london-2012-logo.html |

PS: I just watched the brand video on the website, it's even worse - seizure inducing flashing images, which even needs to come with a warning: "Please note: this video contains flashing images." | | | | | The segments now been removed for that very reason.... http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/engla...on/6724245.stm |

| | Re: Calling all Brits: Olympic Logo | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | For those that are interested, the news article reports that several people did indeed experience epileptic seizures while watching the advert. Apparently, the video even fails an official test for this kind of thing that adverts need to pass before allowed to be aired. I can't believe that they didn't see this coming, or ask an expert before launching it. I'm no expert, but was immediately concerned when I saw it. They must have had some idea because they put the warning in small print next to the video on the website.
Anyway, the video has now been replaced with one about inspiring regular people to do more exercise - nice idea, but it is completely separate from the logo branding. Hopefully they'll realize their mistake with the logo like they did with the video.
PS. The petition is now up to 33,000 signatures.

It seems to inspire a lot of people, be it in a negative, positive or humouristic way. Maybe that logo is quite good after all.

I personnaly think it is quite spot on in relation to current trends in the UK, particularly the chest-thumping about how creative, daring and innovative the country is. Those Olympics were never going to to have a simple/cuddly logo. Do I like it myself, not particularly but anything that makes London look a bit silly is not going to upset me too much (12 years in Manchester see... )
Get ready for some pretty insane stuff for the opening/closing ceremony too.

I don't expect that the Greeks, Australians, Spanish, etc. were ashamed of the way that their country hosted the Olympics (Athens, Sydney, and Barcelona, respectively). Why can't the Brits also host one that we're proud of? That logo is not a good start; I don't think anyone can be proud of it - shame is the predominant emotion right now.

He had to close the petition at just under 50,000 signatures. Not normally one to be spooked he got fed up with reporters knocking on his door and anonymous phone calls suggesting that he "might be an anarchist who needs investigating, I'm just saying".
400K GBP that thing cost. And one that a guy knocked up over his lunch break (BBC website) is way better.
Anyway, it appears to have been a success - a bunch of MPs have called for a review of the logo.

Just received an email with an attachment of a design showing the logo with the blocks representing 2 0 1 2 changed ever so slightly to read S H I T.
Very effective |

I like it. The logo, I mean, not goatse.
£400K isn't that much for a brand development of this importance. You can bet your last Dollar the agency had better images but the commitee favoured the most boring - fact of advertising life.
The important angle to remember is: who's it for? What is it trying to project? Does it communicate?
Well, it's not meant for us oldies (hold your fire) but the kids over the next five years who'll be targeted.
It's visual message is unusual and eye-catching. There's plenty of scope for extension - see the mock-examples already created.
And everyone's talking about it. Typical British response to pan it disappoints, but here we are, raising the consciousness. Like, man.
