Punching, jaywalking - EF comes to life in US.
Rumour has it that free beer and dishwasher tablets may have been involved too. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/us_...a/10336500.stm

Do not ever, anywhere, interfere with a police officer.

| | Re: Police officer punches teen Interesting article about jaywalking linked there.
But getting punched in the face seems to be getting off lightly for obstructing a policeman in the course of arresting someone. Even for something as seemingly trivial as jaywalking.

She should have been kicked in the ovaries and then nuked from orbit for such a thing.
I can't believe anyoneactually watched that video and thought: "she got what she deserved". She took a HUGE and completely unecessary punch to the head, it was classic excessive force.

I have no idea why he was trying to arrest that first girl anyway...it's jaywalking (AKA crossing the road) ffs

Hell I'd rather be punched for jaywalking than arrested and man-handled for taking a photo of a building. | This user would like to thank HashBrown for this useful post: | |

If you want to cross the road across 8 lanes, you get a cop telling you how dangerous it is. They're all crazy over there seriously.

I don't think she got what she deserved. I said she got off lightly. Assaulting an officer while he tries to arrest someone is a good route to getting shot dead.

hth | | | | | I don't think any sane or at least semi-trained police officer would consider that situation (a 17-year old girl trying to make space between him and another girl he's trying to arrest) one worth taking a gun out and shooting with. She wasn't hitting out or being overtly aggressive, she was clearly from the video just trying to seperate them. He didn't need to arrest or throw the girl against the car just for jaywalking, he could have just taken her name and fined her. | Quote: | | | | | Would rather be punched in the head by a hillbilly US cop than murdered by a twat British one. Sorry lads but where I come from you are never "lucky" to not get killed by a policeman.
And it is never on to punch a woman never mind a minor, in the face in that macho way. If he couldn't handle this it's because he isn't well trained to handle situations that are normal in the course of his duty. Zero judgement, overeacting, doesn't have the cop on to back off and call for help. Is a male cop allowed to attack an underage female on duty alone? Where are the witnesses? (In this case there are loads but you can tell who's side they are on.)
And these guys have guns too probably!
I'm glad I don't live in the real world. I'd rather have Toytown anyday.

But please do indulge us. Next time you're back home in the civilised UK, interfere when a copper is arresting some uncooperative yob and report the results.

British cops (unarmed) would probably have not been alone in the first place, would have called for backup, and would have waited until the suspect, and intervening friend, were in the cells before "injuries consistent with resisting arrest" would have occured...

And ive seen people try and split police and their friends up many times in the UK when out and about in places like Leeds and Crawley. They don't get punched, the policemen shout at them and push them back to a safe distance. It's not an uncommon site in major towns on a saturday night, and you see it regularly on UK police TV shows as a major part of a police officers time in the UK on a weekend is spent dealing with trouble in town-centres.

One thing I have learned, no matter how unfair you think the police are with you, stay calm. You can use the law later.
