Ireland - It gets worse

If you want to read a depressing article about the state of Ireland's "condition", go to

http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/...282865400.html

The author is Morgan Kelly who is Professor of Economics at University College Dublin. He has "form" in that he was one of the few to predict the crash. Here is his conclusion:

Quote:

You have read enough articles by economists by now to know that it is customary at this stage for me to propose, in 30 words or fewer, a simple policy that will solve all our problems. Unfortunately, this is where I have to hold up my hands and confess that I have no solutions, simple or otherwise.

...

From here on, for better or worse, we can only rely on the kindness of strangers.

Very true. The US is in the same position, and the UK.
Will Germany continue to subsidise us? I doubt it.
Time to realise we're on our own, and leave the Euro.

Then we can devalue/revalue and slowly recover. It'll only take a generation and a return of emigration.

Look at Iceland for a primer. Perhaps we can vote new people in too like they did.

There is always danger of the alternative.
Blame somebody and start a war.

Thats always been a small problem for Ireland, considering our airforce consists of a couple of cessna's and a kite, and our navy is 5 curraghs and a canoe. However, I reckon we could take Lichtenstein, as long as they don't get the Swiss and their pointy penknives involved.

Yes, Ireland is in a terrible state and the mood on the streets of Dublin is truly depressed and depressing. The only bright spot is the ability of people to continue to laugh at it all. Witness the "free cheese for the unemployed" news item that broke last week, best tweet : "Do the Big Cheeses in Leinster House think the people are crackers? What gouda will that fondue?"

Oh, that would be a bad thing, leaving the EU... would it not mean that eventually all us Irish would have to be applying for a visa to stay in this lovely country? I should have applied for my German passport years ago, when I had all my paperwork done. I never would have thought I might need it... now... maybe...
