Maybe someone can explained to me why Royalty still so important for Brits?
I think it is actually more important for other countries that have royalty, they just don't feel the need to make it a media circus. The Dutch for instance have a serious love for thier monarch on average. The country pretty much stops working for 3 days around her birthday party every year.

They are integral to the way the British Government works, people just don't understand that.

Ahem, apologies for being a grumpy bugger, but:

Who cares?

All the best to them etc. but is this really worthy of filling three of the top ten news headlines on the BBC website/being milked to death?

Oh well. I suppose people need to be distracted from from the fact the world is [still] going to sh*t. I wonder if the Gov is about to pass any dodgy legislation... seems like a good time to do it.

Meh.

Re: Prince William is to marry Kate Middleton

Did you hear her speak in that interview they gave yesterday. Much of what she said was incomprehensible. And the amount of times she said "you know" and "sort of" was almost too many to count. She is 28 years old FFS, not 15. She does sound very posh though.

Is this the quality of a good British education?

Re: Prince William is to marry Kate Middleton

Royal engagement newspaper bullshit round-up:
[source: Daily Mash]

Quote:
Each and every one us will be deeply affected by the looming royal marriage... (Peter Oborne, Daily Telegraph)

In an important sense, this betrothal has far more to teach a new generation about relationships - and fidelity, too. (Bel Mooney, Daily Mail)

For Kate and William, their engagement has profound national significance. They will help form our collective imagination. They are now part of what we are as a nation, how we define ourselves as individuals. (Peter Oborne, Daily Telegraph)

As somebody whose business it is to study the human heart.. (Bel Mooney, Daily Mail - she actually wrote those words)

Today we are wiser and perhaps more humane. The unrealistic expectations that destroyed Charles and Diana have gone. (Peter Oborne, Daily Telegraph - he's playing a blinder)

It is rare these days that we glimpse broad sunlit uplands, but this is one such moment. (Daily Telegraph editorial - sweet Jesus)

And the winner is (obviously)...

Diana, the bride at every royal funeral and the mourner at every royal wedding, was present in more than just the engagement ring which sat so heavily on the hand of this young woman who must now walk a mile in her bloodied shoes, on a road leading who knows where. (Julie Burchill, The Independent)

My mum was talking about the (posh) mumble-factor, too. She has shades of Diana all those years ago when she was thrust in front of the world's media on her engagement to Charles and spent most of the session awkwardly looking at the floor.

I guess they'll work on her press manner in the coming months...

She sure does need a bit more media training. Funny it never occurred to anyone to prepare her for the press over the last 8 years. The difference with Diana though was that she was only 19 and didn't have the advantage of a world class university degree to give her a good education.

Wills seems to have the banter down pat though. He stepped in to rescue her a few times when she trailed off into waffle.

I wonder if the British taxpayer is going to foot the bill. I can see that will be go down like a lead balloon, giving all the cuts in the public sector/tuition fees etc.

That´s exactly what I was thinking while watching the interview, she was very odd.. I think she is quite beautiful, though.
Just hope that ring of hers isn´t cursed or something, given the history of the previous owner.
