Re: Prince William is to marry Kate Middleton

Who clearly remembers when his parents got married and when his mama presented him for the first time ?
It seems like yesterday

I thought it was amazing that a 19 year old could be a real princess (ok it was impressive as a 13 year old girl)

I'm actually looking forward to watching it.
Beautiful weddings and young loves make people smile
It may be fluffy but who cares.... ?
The old country really knows how to put on a lovely, elegant show.

30 years later I still love weddings and fairy tales
.... and the ladies do wear the most extraordinary hats !

I'll give you a clue- it isn't talent so much inbreeding IQ down the drain. Think deoxygenated blood. At least his bride might provide some fresh blood.

I'm sorry, but am I the only one to find this a bit naff and to be brutally honest, ?

Quote:
The forebears of Michael, an ex-flight dispatcher, feature successful Leeds solicitors, while his wife, a former air hostess, is descended from a long line of labourers, carpenters and Durham coal miners.
Hardly a "noble" lineage*...

I'm a bit on the fence with the monarchy, although if push came to shove more pro than anti, but I find the fervent manner in which the press and public fawn over "the couple" a little (take that as a British understatement) sickening. I am so glad that I live here and not there.

As for Diana's funeral... don't get me started...

*note, there's nowt wrong with said jobs, but not exactly coat of arms material...

Re: Prince William is to marry Kate Middleton

There was a whole sodding TV programme last night about Kate's distant relations.
"Kate's 3rd cousin, twice removed is a hairdressor in Shepton Mallet:
'You know I hardly know her, and I'm sure we won't get invited'"

Really? Why am I not bloody well surpirsed?

If they'd gone back far enough, I'm pretty certain a common ancestor of ours fought alongside (or against) William I at Hastings.
Where's my frigging invite, you tossers

Well, depending on the details, you may have your answer.

Curiously, will the British tax payers be footing the bill for the royal wedding? I hope not.

I certainly hope so and they should be grateful for it.

Yes and no.

From what I've read, the basics will be covered by the family, while the additional royal component (security and transport) covered by the tax payer.

The day off, will of course be covered by tax payers, the self-employed and companies

Okay, thanks. I'm from the US and had been curious as to how all of that works there. I guess it's a just a bit fuzzy to me as to what functions British Royalty actually serve at this point. Time to google.

I saw 5 minutes of it and switched channels. A bright red haired midwife in training claims to share the same great grandmother as Kate. Yea, so? not only the tourists but there seems to be an obsession with the royal wedding within the country itself - and its starting to get on my nerves. The media is going overboard with the most minute of details - I certainly dont give a shit if she is going to wear her hair, up or down. I just know she's looking more and more like an aneroxic teenager each time I see her in the news, closer to the wedding.

We have family members with coats with arms and seal rings. So my husband announced he would get a seal ring. It creates an impression modelled on my butt. He is very proud of it.

Funny you mention the parents. I heard on Radio 4 this morning that one of the British papers reported that the queen (okay she's the granny, not mother) only met Kate's parents for the first time when they were invited round to Buckingham Palace for tea/dinner yesterday.

I certainly hope that as 'commoners' they offered to help do the washing up after dinner. :-)

EDIT: they also played the national anthem this morning before the 8 o'clock news as it's the queen's birthday. So I hope the Middleton's got her a nice 'commoner' present like a pyramid of Ferero Rocher.

Re: Prince William is to marry Kate Middleton

With less than a week to go, the wedding ceremony rehearsal has just taken place.

Fortunately there were cameras in place to capture proceedings; unfortunately, like everything in this day-and-age, it comes with sponsorship (T-Mobile).

Looks like it went OK, despite a few obvious nerves.

Re: Prince William is to marry Kate Middleton

Given the propensity for infidelity in the royal family, I wonder how long this marriage will last- I am sure there must be a pre-nuptial agreement. Will the tax payer pay for that too? Her parents already seem to be reveling in the higher social status.
