Hi all,
I live in Finland, work as an It consultant, have a family of a wife and two kids -- 0,5 and 5. I am planning to come to Switzerland, probably to Winterthur in June 2011. We do not speak German, but learn hard.
Why CH, and not a Germany for example? I believe Switzerland is one of a few capitalist countries in the world, and want to see, how is it to pay for everything instead of paying 60% taxes and wait for everything to be payed by government.
Well hello there, I currently live in Winterthur and have been in switzerland for 2 years. If you have any questions in regard to winterthur than I will be more than happy to help you out in any way possible.
Btw I have been a long time reader of EF but this is my first post.

Hi FMX, I learned Finnish myself and... well... good luck! Are you planning to move to Finland? I hope you are right about easiness of German learning. I speak perfect Finnish, and this is the thing I mostly sad for to leave behind. But what can you do, loose some, win some.
Hyvää Joulua ja Onnellista Uutta Vuotta sinullekin!
BTW: Tervetuloa Sveitsiin! (Mihin?) Minä asun Sveitsissä (Missä?)

Ok guys. I left it first time but the ruling on here says that other than a short greeting, translations for text written in languages other than English must be given.
Anyway, I'm nosey.

Thank you Medster17. Nice to meet you! May I ask, where did you come from?
About Winterthur I am mostly interested in housing. Are there bad areas? Are there enough flats? Do you recommend to use a bureau for finding a flat or to come 2 weeks in advance and try to find a suitable place to live myself? How often aboriginals speak English? I can say something in German, but it is not much, and it is a wrong German
Writing these I probably better to open a new topic.

Here comes the translation: Marry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Welcome to Switzerland! (Where to?) I live in Switzerland (Where?)
Hope this Help

Too right you are. You know, I don't bother with giving bad rep and groans, but just you wait until next June when you get here and don't know what to do with your rubbish, don't know where to find a decent swimming pool, don't know where to go hiking, don't know how to fix the fuses in your flat. You'll come on here, I'll see your post pleading for help... Wham! Delete! Hide! Edit! This sort of occasion is the time when being a Moderator is fun.

Happy New Year.
No dear, you don't do that. Not your style. You'd rather interrupt discussion after every post telling stories about you, you life style, your friends, and of cause, how important Forum rules are to obey.

Nice to meet you as well, I came from New Jersey USA.
As far as I am concerned, there are really no bad areas in winterthur but then again my idea of a bad area or neighborhood is very different than the average person.
Well you can begin looking for apartment online a d I would also recommend coming here a lil bit earlier to Check out a few yourself.
I would have to say almost everyone here can speak English or at-least understands it, sometimes it gets annoying because even when you attempt to speak German with them, they hear the english accent and will respond in English.

I'll be moving to the Winterthur area hopefully in summer 2011. Have you found a place in Winterthur? If so, any tips you can give where (and where not) to search?
