Moving to Zurich on Jan 15th 2011..

Hey

Well this is my first post on this forum... I've been looking around and all the information has been really helpful. I have recently been offered a job in Zurich and I'll be starting January 17th 2011..

[Text edited out by Longbyt].

I'm a 30 yr old guy, easy going and friendly... Family from Cyprus but I was born in London... I've just finished a contract out in Warsaw and loved it.. Stayed for over two years and met some great people. I'm sure Zurich will be vrey different but I look forward to the new experiences..

Thanks for all your help

Greg

Hey

Well this is my first post on this forum... I've been looking around and all the information has been really helpful. I have recently been offered a job in Zurich and I'll be starting January 17th 2011.. I've heard that finding an apartment can be quite a process, so thought that initially i'd look at renting a room until I get my bearings...

Well if you don't mind a commute, you can stay here.
This will give you time to look for an unfurnished place without being under pressure.

As for the pint, I can suggest Pickwicks in Baden. Lots of the expat crowd in the Baden area hang out there.

Similar age as you guys. Living here for a bit more than a year now and in Zurich I can recommend Paddy O'Reilly, Longstreetbar, Acapulco, Talaker Bar, Valmann,[...] there are many nice bars to go for a ... beer. Pints only at Paddy's. Sorry guys...

Hi guys.

I'm around the same age and in the same boat. I'm moving to Switzerland this week (about 25 minutes from Zurich) and am really looking forward to getting to know new people and the whole experience.

Nah you'll find there's a few places to get a 'decent' pint, certainly no worse than i've had in some places in the UK. Sure, you don't get the variety of local ales (that I desperately miss), but the Irish and English bars have the most common big names on tap like Murphys, Kilkennys, Guinness etc (expect to pay £6 a pint, but you'll get used to it). The only place i've found a good pint in a non-Irish pub though is at Juan Costa, a tapas bar and restaurant, that does San Miguel on tap, which is about the only lager I can comfortably stomach with something approaching enjoyment.

Have you (and also the OP) found a place to live yet?

Not sooo very different. Or as a Greek told me, one of the first thing he saw after arrival in Zurich was "Apotheke" on top of the farmacies, and so concluded that things could not be soooo difficult
