New to Zurich from Sydney Australia

Hi!

My name is Adam. 26 from Sydney, Australia.

Moving to Zurich from the 15th January with my current employer.

I am a keen skier and golfer.

I dont mind a drink or two, or the odd nightclub (Electro, House).

Let me know if anyone wants to meet up for a drink or a trip to some excellent swiss ski resorts (I have no idea where to go yet )

Looking forward to meeting some of you in the near future.

Cheers
Adam.

Re: New to Zurich from Sydney Australia

Hiya,

Welcome to Zürich. We moved here one year ago from Brisbane.

I have to warn you though, arriving in January is tough. That is, from heat wave to snow. I hope you have nice warm scarf and beanie.

Also, something we learned the hard way: if you are planning to be here for more than 12 months then you need to change your licence to a Swiss one within the year. IMPORTANT if you have renewed your current NSW licence in the past 6 months then go to your local transport department NOW and get an official letter saying when you first got your full licence. Otherwise the transport department here will put you on a provisional licence and you don't want that.

This forum is full of interesting information from a lot of people. Almost everything has been answered at least twice I am sure.

Cheers,

Robyn

ps we have found that alcohol is cheaper here

Re: New to Zurich from Sydney Australia

Hi Adam, and welcome to the EF from another (former) Sydneysider! Hope you settle in okay when you arrive, not far off now ...

For the social stuff, clearly you need the Social Events section of the forum! Lots of great stuff, to suit whatever you feel like doing!

An extra note on the driver's licence - according to what I found out, changing back to the Australian licence if & when you move back is not a problem, again it will just be a swap ... and if you're a little late in exchanging your licence (ie, over the 12 months) it's not a problem - unless you need to drive in the time between the end of that 12 months and whenever you get around to exchanging your licence.
Robyn, that sounds nasty about the provisional licence! Lucky I was four years into a five-year licence when I exchanged mine!

Oh, and yes - alcohol is cheaper here. Bizarre being able to get Australian wines cheaper here than in Australia, but that's taxes for you ...

Well hi there Adam and welcome to the forum.
I currently live in Winterthur which is about 15- 20 mins from Zurich main station. I am not so big on golf unless it's a shooting range which can be um but snowboarding is definitely my thing.
Hope your ride here is fun and hit me up if your interested in doing some ski/snowboarding trip.
