My belated intro

I was just browsing the thread about how rude it is to start commenting on posts before writing a proper introduction... and I just realized, uh-oh, guilty as charged!

So here is my proper introduction...

So my story goes... I moved to Zurich in December 2009 because I met a boy... yeah, yeah--I also happened to have a job offer and my old job in California was going to be outsourced--so it all kind of fell into place... but really, it was about the boy...

But after about 6 months, things didn't quite work out as planned with the boy, so we separated and I had a cow because I started questioning why I was living halfway across the world from where I grew up, not having any close friends or family here, and not knowing any German...

But now I'm trying to make new friends, establish a career and a new life here, and started learning German (it's going slowly though)... Trying to improve my snowboarding skills and realizing that Switzerland is a beautiful country.

What else? I was born in Taipei but moved to Southern California when I was only 1 year old. Single, young professional American female (this sounds like a cheesy singles ad, so that's kind of why I didn't write an introduction originally). Open to new experiences, ready to enjoy life, and hope to meet some of you one day when I pluck up enough courage to meet strangers...

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I hope you are having a nice day!

Re: My belated intro

Welcome to the forum I-Lin. Don't worry about living half way across the globe, especially if you were born in Taipei as you have flown a farther distance to settle in the US...It does look as though you keep dragging yourself Eastward
Sorry about it not working out with the boy

Again, welcome to the forummmm

Re: My belated intro

Welcome I-Lin

Excellent introduction!

Well done on sticking it out even after the break up with "the boy". It's not easy being thousands of miles from home with no close family or friends to turn to, so good on you for not hot tailing it home as some would have done.

Cheers and looking forward to reading more of your posts.

Re: My belated intro

Welcome I-Lin. Starting afresh in a foreign country like CH is by no means easy, more if you come from a totally different culture background. Am an Asian male single so I think I know what you are going through. Anyway I reckon you see yourselves more as American?

Maybe see you around one day. The folks here are mostly kind one I think...

Sorry about that... I really have to watch my California-speak here... especially in a land where there really are a lot of cows...

Just meant to say I had a really tough time last summer when things seemingly fell apart. First instinct was to run "home" (i.e. back to the States), but now I realize that "home" can be anywhere.

Heya, welcome to the forum from a relative newbie.

It's really amazing how many people come here for one reason and end up staying for another. Same thing happened to me recently and am trying to make a go of it here, now if the authorities will only listen to reason

No need for apologies young miss. Was only some friendly banter.
Glad that you got that sorted.

Re: My belated intro

Hi, and a belated welcome to the EF

Great to see that you have the guts to stick things out, and remain positive.

re: the break up, there are all sorts of threads on this exact topic, so you are not "Robinson Crusoe" there.

Keep your eye on the social pages for things to do. Most people (.... haven't met a bad EF member yet actually) will make you feel welcome should you just decide to rock up to an event somewhere.
(not listed is almost every Thursday at the Viadukt markets at Grumpy's Cheese stand).

Good luck with everything.

Re: My belated intro

Hi, and welcome. I am also from California (Bay Area) and moved here for a job (didn't know anyone here at first).

Except that was 23 years ago...now married with 2 kids and Swiss citizenship.

Watch out, shit happens!
