New family in Arzier - Jan 2011

Dear Forum,

We have just moved from the New Forest (South UK) to Arzier (on the hill above Nyon in the canton of Vaud).

We have two daughters, Ruby 9 and Millie 7, both are having their first day in Arzier School today.

We have left all our furniture and possetions in the UK and will be working on a house renovation so over the course of the next six months we will be building our future in Switzerland literally from scratch. We hope that this forum will provide us with guidance and opportunities to make that process as smooth and as cost effective as possible. After a while we will hopefully be able to repay the assistance with our own experience.

Over the next few months we will post our questions but here are a few things that might inspire you to contact us.

I Love:
Skiing, Sailing (happy to crew a keel boat), Tennis, Badminton, Film, Wine, Classic Cars.

My Wife Loves:
Languages (German, French and English), Running and Fitness, Close Friends, Reliable Cars!

My Kids love:
All things pink, Reading, Computers, Pets, Performing, Ice Skating and Skiing.

We need:
Everything so if you are leaving and want to sell your life to us... let us know!

I will not log on daily but I will look at the site weekly and promise to read all your comments.

Well I guess that's enough of an introduction. Look forward to hearing from you.

Bruster

Welcome to Arzier and the forum!

I think you will like it here and here, it is a nice place to be. Often go to or through Arzier on the way to St.Cergue and region for winter activities, unfortunately the weather has turned for the worse of late. With any luck, it should come back. Enjoy Arzier and good luck with your renovations, not so easy and often costly. If you haven't found Hornbach yet, in Etoy, it is worth it for any DIY work.

Hi Bruster,

Welcome to Switzerland.

We have been here a while, but are now starting to look at purchasing a house and are definitely looking at one that needs some renovations (although probably not major structural issues). We are also looking, amongst other locations, at Arzier, so I would be really interested in how you find living in Arzier, your experience of getting a house to renovate and your experience of navigating the administration!

Kind regards,
GVAbound

Re: New family in Arzier - Jan 2011

Welcome Bruster!

We are in Vaud, on the other side of Lausanne. Been here 6 months. If you want to get our children together sometime, I have 4 active (American) children, including a daughter who is 10 and a son who is 7. Ice skating and skiing are definitely big interests with my group right now. We have an outdoor rink here on the lake and we're all out there almost every day. Pets would be another interest, but we left 4 cats in America and haven't figured out transport for them yet!

I run, along the lake and in the hills and mountains around here. Send a pm if your wife would like to join me sometime!

Good luck in Arzier. I bet it is beautiful there!
