| | Another Hello, Nr lausanne
Hi all,
going to be working for the next year (at least) near lausanne so I thought I'd come here and look for info on places to stay etc. |

Hi Gibbo, welcome to the forum!
The housing market in Lausanne is really really tight - if you are willing to commute from a small town a little way out, you may have a better chance of finding something soon. Good luck!

yes, I'd noticed that , I won't be working in lausanne, it's vevey I think (only got confirmation this morning, don't know exact location yet).
So, looking for accom somewhere nr vevey, maybe montreux?
I'm hurriedly searching now, but there's not much and I don't know all the ins and outs of the market, how it works, etc.
Looks like hotels for a few weeks until I get the hang of things. Don't want to fork out loads of cash only to find I'm living in a crack den. |

yes, you're probably right. Will check the link.
Out of curiosity, what's "average" earnings?
So far, everything I've looked at is mega expensive, does that mean earnings are higher (than uk) or most people have less 'stuff' and it's only rich people/tax exiles that can afford the best houses/cars/etc.

vevey is outside of lausanne and it would be easier to find a house in vevy/montreaux than in the town of lausanne.
you may find easywg.ch
it would not hurt to stay in a co-location for some time (provided you are coming alone ). co-location would be much cheaper and would give you some time to look for a decent place of yours.
all the best in your search

Good luck with your house-hunting. We too will be moving to the Lausanne area in teh coming months, but are a family of 5 so its a slightly different situation. Have read some posts that say Vevey is dead in terms of nightlife, but some others have said that those working at Nestle work such long hours nightlife is not a concern, and its more convenient to be close to work. Just some thoughts for you....
